I watched the extended highlights of a Manchester Derby from the early 70s recently. Lee, Bell and Summerbee v Best, Law and Charlton. The standard was appalling. Neither team could string more than 3 passes together.
What's the set list like these days? I remember Stephen Merchant kicking off on XFM years ago because he went to see them at Hyde park and they played b sides for the majority of the set.
I do think a lot of the doubters will be eating humble pie. He's got all the tools and it's just a case of putting it together on a consistent basis. He will come good.
It's interesting in the press conference that Pep praised his work ethic. You can only assume that he means Savinho is putting in the hours in training to work on his game because his energy pressing and tracking back on the pitch are poor.
You can't turn down 70m and keep him on a low contract. This deal was always going to happen.
The talent is there. Pep and the club clearly believe in him and I think he will develop into a world class winger over the next 2 seasons.
The huge number of Union Jacks and St George crosses is disconcerting. My own experience of this mess is centred around my dad. He is 68 and my memory of him when I was younger was as a fairly liberal, open minded Labour voter. In recent years he has gone down a right wing rabbit hole. Farage...
A couple of years ago Pep would have rested players against Napoli and gone strong against Arsenal. I agree with the approach he's taken this week but it's probably a sign of where we are.
Interesting tactical tweak when we had the ball in the build up Bernardo moved deep effectively playing right back and Khusanov pushed to the right wing.
