    Books & Reading Thread 2025

I really enjoyed this book too. It was someone on here who recommended “The Dry” that sent me down an Aussie Noir rabbit hole from which I rarely emerge! I can recommend Chris Hammer and Garry Disher as equally good authors of this genre.

    Books & Reading Thread 2025

I’m afraid I’ve neglected to update my reads as frequently as I should have done last year (for me that was the challenge element of the former thread heading!) and I will do better this year. I read 30 books in 2024 plus 1 audiobook. I mainly played safe with the usual thrillers, mostly...

    Internet Radios

I have 2 Roberts radios and they're great. I have an iStream 3 and a Stream 94i. The latter was a refurbished model although you couldn't tell. They are well built and sound quality is good too. I use it for listening to the radio (obviously!), streaming Spotify (music and podcasts) and a...

You Like It Darker - Stephen King 9/10 This is a collection of 12 short stories. Stephen King has been described as a great storyteller and on the basis of the stories in this book, it’s hard to disagree. This is a tremendous book. There isn’t a dud in the 12 stories and for me there are a...

Even Dogs in the Wild - Ian Rankin 8/10 I watched the latest reboot of Rebus on BBC recently and decided it was about time I read one of the books. I didn’t know whether to start at the beginning (there are 24 to date) or just jump in anywhere. I decided upon the latter - I had seen an...

    Media Discussion - 2023/24

This is from the BBC preview of the England v Netherlands game on the BBC website the other day. Note the difference in tone - Foden was deemed to be at fault in the experiment whereas it was the team's fault for not getting the ball to Bellingham!

The Man in the Bunker - Rory Clements 7/10 This is the 6th novel in the Professor Tom Wilde series. It is now 1945 and the war has just ended. However, there is some doubt about the fate of the Nazi leader, Adolf Hitler. Many believe he is dead, having killed himself in his Berlin bunker...

What's the best football book of all time?

Try "The Damned Utd" by David Peace. It's a biographical novel rather than a biography but a good read nonetheless. Wikipedia states "Depicting events in the life of English football personality Brian Clough, it is set during Clough's brief and unsuccessful 44-day spell as manager of Leeds...
