Can’t make my mind up about Tongue. He seems to bowl a lot of dross but capable of bowling a jaffa at any given moment.
If everyone is fit, I’d say our best bowling attack is Stokes, Dawson/Rehan/Woakes, Atkinson, Archer and Wood.
Hogg was a one day specialist. He was never much use in test cricket.
If anyone was unlucky back then, it was Stuart MacGill. He would have taken 400 wickets if he’d been born anywhere else.
Hopefully we can win here and rest Stokes and Archer for the final test. If we’re to stand any chance in the Ashes, we need them both fully fit and firing.
As impressive as some of their signings are, I think they might be found wanting defensively next season.
If they’re playing Frimpong as a conventional right back, lots of teams are going to have a lot of joy down their left-hand side.
They showed a graphic that showed Bashir drifts the ball the least from all the spinners to have bowled this series. Washington was far and away at the top.
I wonder whether this will be our top 7 come the first Ashes test in November.
I’m still not completely sold on Pope. He struggles against high pace and spin, and his average in the second innings is under 20.
