    Surreal Moments at City Games

I remember that (Feyenoord). Nicky Summerbee had the ball at one point and was about to pass to him then seemed to notice he was wearing jeans. I was sat in the Main Stand and a bloke near me shouted: 'If that was his dad he'd have passed to him for the laugh.'

    Surreal Moments at City Games

Yes. It was v Coventry and I was in the Platt Lane. They stopped play and Mike Summerbee picked up the ball and shook it! I'm not exactly certain what they expected us to do if we found a bomb.

    Surreal Moments at City Games

There's a bit of doom and gloom around the world at the moment so let's try and lighten things here (for a few moments at least). I saw the thread about the Chicken Man (see: https://forums.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk/threads/an-audience-with-the-frozen-chicken-man.322795/ ) and it got me thinking about...

An Audience with the Frozen Chicken Man

I used to sit a few rows behind and someone (may be him, may be someone else) did bring a chicken to the game and swing it around his head on multiple occasions. Then one week, presumably after the club had told him he couldn’t do that, a plastic/rubber chicken appeared and was swung around...

Bell, Lee and Summerbee statue | Unveiled (pg19)

Although.... At the time the pitch invasions (there were 2) occurred Utd were not mathematically down. If we think about the drama of the Aguero day or of other promotion/relegation/title winning drama days it's never over until a whistle is blown at a deciding game. Anything can happen in those...

Bell, Lee and Summerbee statue | Unveiled (pg19)

I don’t think he’s kicking. The sculptor talks about him balancing like a dancer on the video.

Bell, Lee and Summerbee statue | Unveiled (pg19)

I got in touch with the developers some time ago about a possible archaeological dig but that never got anywhere.

PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

Whenever someone says to me 'It's not fair, City can spend whatever they like and it's ruining football' etc. I always say: 'It wasn't seen as quite an issue when your club/LFC/MUFC/Arsenal dominated football and could spend what they like so why is it an issue to you now?' If they continue down...

PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

This is an interesting article on BBC about LFC's owners. Obviously, it talks about City in several places (usual stuff) but the wider piece is about the problems LFC's owners are having in the States with Boston and over here. In essence they don't want to invest is the general point but when...

Bell, Lee and Summerbee statue | Unveiled (pg19)

When I wrote a comic novel (Atkinson For England written with Mark Brown) about football in early 2000s we created a rundown hotel in the story that was dedicated to MCFC owned by superfan Dave Bayley (we merged the names of fanzine editors Dave Wallace and Noel Bayley) we had lots of MCFC...

Bell, Lee and Summerbee statue | Unveiled (pg19)

The screen was showing the video from the actual recording with some of the lyrics appearing every so often in big letters.

Bell, Lee and Summerbee statue | Unveiled (pg19)

My view of the light show last night (follow the link): https://gjfootballarchive.com/2023/11/29/bell-lee-summerbee-statue-light-show/ Did anyone capture the Boys In Blue video on the screens? It was great to see the North West Film Archive footage of the day it was recorded in March 1972...

Bell, Lee and Summerbee statue | Unveiled (pg19)

Agreed. The club spent a considerable amount of time sourcing photos, videos etc. from Franny's arrival on 9 Oct 1967 until the ECWC success in 1970. That's the period they were trying to capture and highlight. They asked me to help with some of that stuff and I supplied what I could too. There...

Bell, Lee and Summerbee statue | Unveiled (pg19)

The unveiling was in the morning and there were film crews, photographers etc. there. It would have been filmed/photographed in daylight. They painted it before all of that but it sounds like it was still wet when you arrived. They wanted to get it right for the Bell, Lee, Summerbee families who...

Bell, Lee and Summerbee statue | Unveiled (pg19)

They have rebuilt the pathway, walls and so on. My guess is that it had to be painted to look right and appropriate for such an iconic statue's unveiling. If they'd have left the reworked concrete bare or allowed an ugly looking space to surround the statue I think we know what the wider world...

Members of Colin's family were at Francis' funeral and several members of all three families were sat together chatting etc. yesterday.

They all knew they were happening. It's been a long process over many years. Francis approved it.

Bell, Lee and Summerbee statue | Unveiled (pg19)

Originally in the museum. I commissioned it when we set up the museum in 2003. It cost £2000 and was done by sculptor Kari Furre who used real football clothing, boots etc. over a base figure. She sprayed it all with a special fabric hardener. It's made for indoors. We had other figures in the...

Bell, Lee and Summerbee statue | Unveiled (pg19)

They're all remembered. The statue contains the names of all the players who appeared in games during the 1967-68 season and the FA Cup, League Cup and ECWC winning teams. It's so appropriate. Unfortunately, we can't have statues to them all but this is great recognition from the club. I was...
