    Outfield Players In Goal

Actually Mike Doyle might have been one of the very few players to have done this more than once; I remember him going in nets in a game against Forest at Maine Road in 1975 or 76. City were already three down by that stage and Mike played in goal for most of the second half without conceding...

    The three stars

Whilst not wishing to disagree with Noel Gallagher, the eagle is probably the most authentic part of the badge; Manchester began life as 'Mamucium', founded as a fort by the Roman army, and of course the symbol of the Roman army was an eagle.

David Pleat auctions shoes that danced upon Maine Road...

It took a few years but we got even in the end; the fantastic 'come back from the dead' when we overcame a 0-3 deficit to win 4-3 at Spurs in that Cup game - and that with ten men - finished him at Spurs. He was 'relieved of his managerial duties' shortly afterwards. I don't think he's managed a...

    Rooney (MERGED)

Most likely this is either: (a) a cunning plan by Mancini and Marwood to destabilise the rags (b) a cunning plan by Baconface to destabilise Bluemoon or (c) a not particularly cunning plan by Shrek to increase his wages. I for one, would not want to see WR in a City shirt; I don't think him and...

City players you could never take to (past or present).

Oh my god - reading through thirteen pages of names I'd successfully buried in the deepest part of my consciousness has given me a severe case of post-traumatic stress syndrome. I might just have to see the doctor in the morning.

Who from the past do our players remind you of..

Adam Johnson does remind me of Neil Young; not so tall of course and right footed rather than left, but he hugs the touchline in a similar vein and is deceptively nifty when cutting in between defenders.

    Most hated pundits?

In defence of Robbie Savage, he did say some positive things about City last Saturday - along the lines of 'if any fans deserve success, it's Man City's'. Apparently he's big mates with Dickov so perhaps he's been enlightened. For me, Alan Green is the most loathsome and obnoxious little turd...

Not a single impeccable England fan arrested

The England fans have been great. It's the players who should be arrested - for impersonating a football team!

    Granada "City!" documentary 1980-81

I've still got this on video. I'm going to buy a vhs/dvd recorder at the beginning of September and so if you're prepared to wait a few weeks, I'll let you have a copy on dvd when it's done.

    Bert Trautmann in the M.E.N

I saw Bert play in Mike Doyle's testimonial (City v Stoke) - think it was 1977 or 78, thirteen years after he retired. He came on at half-time to replace Joe Corrigan. Even in his mid fifties, he had tremendous presence on the field and commanded his penalty area with real authority - certainly...
