Playing in our away shirts in home game?

Yes! The kick-off was delayed until the ref's badges were sewn on to his white shirt. All I can remember about the match was a huge crowd, Coimbra timewasting from the first minute and City scoring the only goal in extra time. Can't for the life of me remember who scored.

Best and worst away day you’ve been on

Best: 3-1 at the swamp in March 1968, the night when we knew we could win the league for the first time for over 30 years. Closely followed by 1-0 at the swamp in 1974 (for obvious reasons). Worst: So many to choose from, but Shrewsbury in the FA Cup was pretty dire.

Most pissed off you have been at a game.

Liverpool away in the league in 1974 I think. We were 3-0 down before half time and were being smashed to pieces. It was utterly humiliating. The only time I've ever left a match at half time. The next year I stayed until the bitter end. Lost 4-1. Colin Bell scored our goal in injury time -...

On this day - Swales became chairman

I very rarely post on Bluemoon, but I have something to contribute to this thread, so here goes. Sorry it's so long. I knew Peter Swales and a few of the others who were directors of City in the late seventies/early to mid eighties. I knew them because a close relative of mine was a City...

Do you remember the first City game you ever attended.

The game against Bury at Maine Road was Colin Bell's debut - for Bury. And he scored (for Bury!) in the first half. But you are right about Harry Dowd - he played centre forward after he broke his finger - and he scored the equaliser late in the second half. I can't be sure who went in goal...

    Remembering Swales

I met Peter Swales on about ten occasions while he was City's Chairman. He was not very different from lots of other club chairmen at the time - self-made local businessmen who thought that owning their local club would earn them respect and admiration. At the time, that was not too much of a...

    Your first City match?

Age 7 in March 1961 v Everton (H). Won 2-1. My only memory is of us scoring at the scoreboard end.

What's the best you've ever seen City play?

Old codger here: 3-1 v United (A) March 1968 was the most complete (and satisfying) City performance I have ever witnessed, especially as we came back from a goal down and simply took them apart. I can still see Colin Bell's beautiful equaliser as clearly as if it was yesterday. The ballet on...

Brian Glanville - World Soccer Magazine

Maybe he hates City because his son is a cockney rag - I kid thee not!! He (the son) wrote a book about his 'exploits'. But Glanville did write a great football novel in the 1960s. 'The Rise of Gerry Logan'

Didn't City break the domestic record when we signed Denis Law from Huddersfield? £52,000?

    "Manchester City are the champions"

It was awesome. Just awesome. Impossible to describe the emotion. Forty four years ago, but still incredibly fresh in the memory. The poor quality of the video makes it difficult to see just how good Neil Young's first goal actually was.

Harry due in court on Monday 23rd January 2012 (merged)

The reporting restrictions have now been lifted on Mandaric's acquittal in January (with Peter Storrie) of cheating the public revenue over payments made by Portsmouth following two other transfers (Amdy Faye/Eyal Berkovic) which had nothing to do with Harry. Mandaric must be one unlucky fella...
