    VAR Discussion Thread - 2023/24

It’s only the third one that I think they can feel aggrieved by, I think VAR was right not to intervene with the other two. Personally I think it shows how bad things are with VAR that they think it should get involved in all three.

No, that’s just how they convert the var lines to the broadcast lines.

It does though to be fair, that’s why the thicker lines are applied.

Thing with the subjective decisions is which ones do they decide to tee up?

Ha! Well now he’s getting paid by the club….

    VAR Discussion Thread - 2023/24

There could be I agree and as much as I want it scrapped, I know that’s not going to happen now so got to focus on that instead. I just don’t like anything that alters the match day experience at the top level compared to others - I get it works for other sports but there’s a lot more objective...

They requested it before the game. Doesn’t make it right though. Was always going to happen as soon as they hired Clattenburg though, that was a worrying development in itself. If anything, that’d potentially create a subconscious bias against them more than anything else…

    VAR Discussion Thread - 2023/24

Oh I agree with that, I’ve never liked VAR and would quite happily scrap it tomorrow! As I said earlier in the thread though, that’d rely on people accepting the referees decision and stop scrutinising video evidence so much - that ship has already long sailed unfortunately.

He would have been allowed to ref the game though.

    VAR Discussion Thread - 2023/24

For the same reason it’s always been frowned upon, questioning the integrity of the referee devalues all of them. They're already scrutinised to death without public accusations of bias by the clubs themselves. If people really thought rationally about it, if you were in a job where you knew...

I’ve no idea unless we hear from Atwell. Like I said, I think that one was a shocker. Depending on his answer, then there should be consequences for Atwell and maybe Webb too.

    VAR Discussion Thread - 2023/24

Personally I think Webb has screwed it this year with his wanting to keep it onfield as much as possible. If you’re going to do that, then just change VAR to being objective decisions only, he’s created an even more stupid middle ground that was stupid anyway in the first place. Personally I...

Not if they wanted to keep it in their own hands as they’ve still got to play Everton.

    VAR Discussion Thread - 2023/24

They can question his competence and ask for an explanation but publicly questioning his integrity is rightly only going to get one response, not just for the benefit of him but any referee. We’re going to end up with even worse referees as no one in their right mind would ever do it as a job...

They could have kept it private given their accusation, they openly accused the VAR official of bias and that’s always going to be challenged. If they’d have said he was incompetent, then there wouldn’t have been an issue.

I’ll never forget that feeling, absolutely hated it. The flip side to it though is people need to be far more forgiving of referees when they do make mistakes and that ship I think has already sailed.

Bear in mind the PL is the clubs themselves. Reason they didn’t implement or vote on it though was because of the Nike balls they use, they needed this season to test it.

Yup. I work with a load of forest fans and none of them are happy they released that statement.

    VAR Discussion Thread - 2023/24

I get it because of the entire situation and personally I’ve never been a fan of VAR but I don’t really get why yesterday’s has caused so much uproar specifically. It’s a consequence of the decision people wanted by putting in VAR in the first place. Even if they’re marginal, they’re still...

    The Conservative Party/Government

I agree about Cameron, I do think the state of the whole party has to be considered as well though. Would also have been interesting to see if he’d done it if they weren’t in coalition government at the time.
