Did I mention I'd been on Eggheads?
Need to travel from Coventry to Manchester on Friday and it is £48.50 single.
Then broke down the journey and got it for £30 less....
Cov to Wolves £5
Wolves to Stoke £5
Stoke to Piccadilly £8.50

Dont even have to get off the train once.
Well made up with that but sadly the majority of travellers will pay the top whack and be ripped off.

Do that all the time to get around, the franchises on major routes take the piss on direct travel, but you can find some tidy savings breaking up the journey.

In my opinion that is why we need renationalisation and ticket prices set reasonably

Works great that, but you need to make sure the train stops at all of the break points in the journey. If not, you can get some staff ,who rightly say, its against the conditions of carriage and will charge you the full fare.
