Insider: Manchester City want to buy Everton

Txiki Begiristain is monitoring the 17-year-old Brazilian striker, while Jose Mourinho indulges in a bit of product placement and Rene Meulensteen sweats on his future

Manchester City are chasing 17-year-old Brazilian striker Everton, The Insider understands.

The Gremio forward, who scored 20 goals for the club's youth team last year, is very highly-rated in Brazil and has been previously scouted by City director of football Txiki Begiristain and his South American contacts.

Everton can't sign a pro deal until he is 18 later this year and a work permit could still be a problem, with City exploring the possibility of establishing links with Portuguese side Boavista.

A further complication is the fact that Gremio only own 90 per cent of Everton's sporting rights and thus City would need to come to an agreement with the relevant third party.

(1/2) City have 'secured a commercial interest' in Portuguese sides Gil Vicente and Boavista according to The Independent.

(2/2) The deals will give City an advantage in signing Brazilians, who they could send there. And it could help with FFP (buy/develop/sell).
