Some interesting details (some that I think amplify his heroism):

The man is named Mamoudou Gassama, aged 22. He originally hails from Mali and was an undocumented immigrant, so he not only immediately risked his life scaling the balconies to get to the child, but he risked being detained and departed even if he was successful.

The French government is apparently now fast tracking is naturalisation and he has reportedly received an offer to become a firefighter in Paris.

He has already met directly with Macron, who thanked him for his decisive action, and he is likely to be giving interviews to many media outlets in the next few weeks.

Their neighbour nearly ruined his moment though, trust him to get involved after he'd already scaled several balconies.

The neighbour has said all he could do was hold on to the child—the partition between the balconies made it “impossible” for him to pull the child up and over. So the neighbor was there to act as a hold on the child’s arm just in case it let go of the railing. I think he could have probably had the person beside him hold on to the child’s arm while he climbed down to move to the other balcony but was either too frightened to do it or say Mamoudou coming up and thought he was obviously in a better position to handle things, strangely enough.

The fireman were called but most on the scene said that the child would have likely have fallen well before they arrived and that the neighbour may or may not have been able to keep hold of the child had they suddenly dropped.

Either way, that is quite the physical achievement, even ignoring the courage it took to do it to save the child.

there are still good people in the world.on another note the father is in the shit for leaving the 4 year old home alone.some people don't deserve kids

It’s depressing that he had to scale a huge building to rescue a child to gain citizenship and a get offered a job.

‘Immigrant’. Why don’t they call him an ‘ex-pat’ like the English people living in France?
