1 minutes silence/applause for Alan Henning

I don't get all this 'clap on x minute for such and such reason', it should be a minute at the START when it will have everyone's attention (and I would say silence is more appropriate in this case).

I have nothing but respect for Henning but i'm sick to the back teeth of minutes silences/applause at the football. It's getting to be every game now.
Personally i go to the match to forget about the worlds, and my, problems

His picture was shown on the screens before the Roma match, so the club wasn't bothered about the political/moral implications of it then. Got applause from both sets of fans - not sure a majority of the Roma fans knew who he was at first but the applause spread as his identity was being passed on.

Wouldn't surprise me if they did a minutes silence or applause for him.

On facebook there have been numerous calls for a 1 minute silence before the match against spurs for Alan Henning as he was a Manchester man and i believe his son supports city (not sure if he did). This would need to be arranged for by the club if we did a minutes silence but does anyone know who to contact if not, anyone on here that can plan a minutes applause properly during the match if the silence cannot be arranged?

EDIT: Also saw it should be done on the 47th minute as he was 47
Cheers

red or blue we should be doing this.

I believe the club wanted to do something at the spurs game, But as his wife will be in Scotland for the David Haynes memorial and she can't attend, they are going to do some thing. But not sure when.

But what im thinking is would people overrule city as it is quite a controversial topic possibly the premier league may tell them not to do it ?
Why?
Could be deemed in some quarters as ''political'' and I'd imagine the FA/PL bigwigs would want to avoid any controversy.

I think every club had a minute for that Ken bloke who had his head chopped off a few years and he had no connection to Manchester and was over there to earn a load of dough not to help people.

That was the one that turned me against a lot of the public grieving. From memory someone decided 1 minutes silence wasnt enough for a tragedy such as that so we all had two minutes silence. Struck me that it was becoming less and less about respecting the individual and more about being seen to do the right thing.

Right, get ready for the most confusing family going with regards to football teams;

Alan was a tiny bit of a blue. My Dad took him to Oakwell in 1981 for his one and only match in the League Cup. Barnsley 1 Typical City 0.

My Dad is a blue and season ticket holder in the South Stand with our kid and their sister is a blue whose 1st ever match was 4-0 v Newcastle when Bell made his comeback.

Alan's son is a red. I was trying my best to convert him only last night at the memorial in Whalley Range.

Alan's older brother is a Blackburn Rovers fan.

Their Dad (my Grandad) was a West Ham fan who moved to Eccles when he came out of the army.

I agree with what some are saying about football being an escape. I do believe something will happen at a forthcoming match though.

I know what you mean grandparents blues, my mum and dad rags, me obviously a blue, my lad a bleeding county fan

I also agree that we seem to have too many minutes silence/applauds nowadays but Alan was from Manchester and i believe something should be done

Can I suggest that if this goes ahead, can all those miserable fuckers who don`t want it to happen, just stay on the concourse or go for a shite.
I don't think anyone who doesnt think it should take place has suggested they are tempted or feel the need to disrupt any minutes silence that may or may not happen.

Who is the miserable fucker again?

Not me ! I aint the one complaining that "we have too many of these nowadays" so stop trying to pass the buck.If you don`t want to be involved then just keep the fuck away for that one minute.Simple solution.

Most people are capable of sitting through a minutes silence whether they agree with it or not. No need to send them out onto the concourse like naughty schoolchildren just because they don't agree with your narrow point of view.

Deserves all the respect in the world, shame the world is not full of compassionate people like Alan, giving his time and ultimately his life to help others.
