Immediately being on someone’s back isn’t supporting is it. Actually desperate for him not to do anything is shite. I agree he hasn’t performed yet, nowhere near as bad as is made out but he needs to take more risks rather than play it easy. There was probably 6 or 7 players worse than him on Saturday so let’s chill out. New season, support our players and reflect at the end. If he has another season like last then by all means let’s call it a failure
Having a whole season of very average to below average performances isnt being immediately on somones back.

The excuse that other players werent good isnt an excuse either.....check their threads..plenty of criticism of Haaland, Mahrez and others.

Grealish has got a huge season ahead......if he doesnt start performing he wont get a whole season as other players will deservedly move ahead of him if they perform

That’s the problem though isn’t it, people are waiting for him to fail because of last year. It was the start of a new season where everyone was shite yet in the crowd and on here, he gets a large portion of the blame. We will forever have a boo boy. Take Saturday in isolation and again there was most of the team who were probably worse than him. Him not taking risks and playing it safe was probably better than everyone else booting it out of play.

I'd take him back in a heartbeat.

I know there are plenty of Villa fans who see him joining you guys as some kind of betrayal and they act like he was never anything to him.

But he's (by a considerable distance) the best player our academy's produced, certainly in my lifetime, possibly ever.

Before he got injured in 20/21, he was virtually unplayable. Continuously creative, driving at defences, conjuring up endless chances, and all our other players were better for the space and service he provided. Matt Targett looked a top-class left-back. Ollie Watkins looked potentially lethal. Neither was anywhere near as convincing - or had anywhere near the time and space to play - after he left.

His head was in the right place, he was in great physical condition, he was playing with confidence and swagger and joy and aggression and absolutely no fear.

When he left, I made my peace with it. I'm a Villa fan first and a Jack fan second. I want him to succeed except against us. And he left because he wanted and deserved to play at the highest possible level and prove himself against the toughest competition. He was better than us and that hurts but I don't blame him for leaving.

Now I see you've got him hugging the touchline and afraid to lose the ball, and that's sad as hell because with just a little bit of belief and confidence and support he's an incredibly special player.

Firstly i never thought we were getting a lightening fast winger....Id watched him at Villa enough to know this wasnt the case. Even in that compilation you have provided I see very little besides the odd bti that makes me think he is anything special at all.

I get what you (and others) say about him hugging the touchline...problem is all the other players that play more inside are better than him...
KDB - obviously
Gundogan - Obviously
Foden - at 21/22 is lightyears ahead of Grealish
Bernardo Silva - Infinitely more skillful, more of a goal threat, works harder, runs further, better in tight spaces etc

I mean, Zinchenko was better in the positions Grealish gets into and we just sold him

He isnt getting a large proportion of the blame on here.....

He is getting blamed along with others...Mahrez and Haaland were equally poor on weekend and this has been pointed out.....

He actually gets defended more on here than others..

If/When Sterling had played like that for us he would/did got pelters for it......

You guys know your players better than I do of course, and obviously I'm not going to sit here and tell you your multiple-trophy winning squad isn't fantastic.

KDB and Gundogan are great, but aren't they increasingly injury-hit these days?
Isn't Gundogan's contract up soon?
And isn't Bernardo itching for a move?
And doesn't Foden also provide cover on both wings, where you've already lost Sterling and Jesus?

Maybe City bought Jack because that combination of factors could easily combine to leave you short centrally, and having someone else who can play there as well as on the left would provide vital cover and he could be transitioned to play there more over the next year or two.

For what it's worth, I think Jack can play on the left, but he's never (or rarely) going to go bombing round the outside, and without a fullback on the overlap he's going to struggle because that's not his game.

He's at his best in the half-spaces and dropping deep, but he'll play any role that's asked of him without complaint. Dean Smith moved him from a more central role to a kind of "left wing but free" role in 19/20 because we didn't have anyone else who could play on the left. His whole career before that he was basically a CAM who would also play a handful of games a season on the left and maybe a couple on the right.

I really hope Pep can find a way to play him that gets the best out of him. Probably doesn't make much difference to you guys because you win so much anyway, but he is special, whether you see it or not, and the world deserves to see it, and it'll be absolutely tearing him apart to feel like he isn't doing enough to earn the fans' support.

So he didn't bench him for practically the whole title run in like you said.

Yes, the biggest games, this is boring now. 7 of the last 13 league games, non of the last 4 CL games. So he started 7/17 in the run in..

However you want to continue this, facts remain he was no where near good enough last season. Fingers crossed he’s far better this season.

The CL Quarters & Semi’s, the last game of the season were the biggest game. As someone posted above he started 7 of the last 13 league games and they were mainly allowing the key players to stay fit.

If you don’t think remaining on the bench can Villa is an indication of how his form was viewed. Then I don’t believe you.

You don't like Grealish and we all can see it. I agree that he was not good last game. But the fact is that he started mostly all PL games since returning from injury except Liverpool Wolves(midweek rotation) Brighton (midweek rotationi) and Villa.

We could win the title against West Ham and he started in that game. It showed the trust. Against Villa he was not picked up but why pick a player the opposition know the best while you have other options?

well said. most here bury their head in the sand when it comes to these facts concerning Jack.

Its boring because you don't appear able to admit you were wrong. You never mentioned the big games - I've quoted it numerous times now you said.

'Pep benched him for practically the whole title run in'

You are wrong! he played more than all but kdb in the last 6 games.

I've never mentioned his ability or performance. Nor did i mention the champion league. So I'm not sure why you keep responding with this?
