10th Anniversary. What were you doing when you found out?

I was at Wythenshawe hospital waiting to pick my father in law up - and heard it on the car radio - talk sport. But as I recall , they kept interviewing an Arab bloke - can’t remember his name - who turned out to have nothing to do with the Mansour organisation - but claimed to the official spokesman of the group. Think he was a minor tv celebrity in Abu Dhabi or something - but he was rumbled after a few hours when the real official spokesman made a statement in front of the mass media - and distanced themselves from the fake guy - anyone remember his name ?

Another thing I remember - the day after the takeover was announced - I was in my car - stopped at red light and saw a mate of mine - fellow blue of many years - I took out my wallet and waved it in his direction fist pumping and cheering etc - he shouted over that I must have been pissed cos it was usually the only time any of the lads saw my wallet !

I was 15 at the time. Got home from school and fired up the PlayStation. As was my routine at that time!
My best mate text me (spurs fan) saying we had just bid 30+ million for berbatov and I thought he was pulling my leg. He replied saying he was serious and I ran downstairs to put Sky Sports news on and couldn't believe what I was seeing!
My dad, the reason I support city, was still at work so I called his office frantically and he hadn't heard so was in disbelief. I then spent the next 6-8 hours watching sky with my old man, both our jaws on the floor hoping we'd sign a superstar!
When Robinho was announced it was like Christmas day.

Remember it all clear as day haha

Was anyone really that excited or had any real idea what was going to happen over the next 10 years, I had seen so many false downs at our club that made it only slightly interesting, where was I, no idea.
Where am I now, dream land.

There's a rather 'delightful' article in the DT this morning about the 'anniversary' of twenty years ago. The journo mentions 'the single bleakest day in the history of sport', 'a date most historians refer to as Black Sunday', 'Asaba's backheel set up Bob Taylor to score the greatest goal at Wembley', 'dastardly Kevin Horlock', 'no injuries in the second half but referee Mark Halsey somehow allowed play to continue until Paul Dickov scrambled in the scruffiest of goals in the seventh (seventh!) added minute, stabbing a dagger into my heart that has never been removed.

Daniel Scholfield is a Gillingham fan!

And no one removed all the daggers that the pen shootout embedded in Pulis's persona. He wore them hidden under the stuff from the club kit shop!

I travelled down an escalator on the London Underground once and found myself behind someone sporting a hoody, emblazoned with GILLINGHAM FC on his back. I asked him if he remembered '99. Without turning round he said, "Don't talk to me about '99 in that accent!"

Working. When I heard the news of the takeover and Robinho siging, I made a beeline for my gobby Utd colleague in the warehouse. "Move over cowboy, there's a new sheriff in town." Nine years later (last season), he did actually say to me that City are a brilliant team. The only compliment he's said. Usually it''s the arrogant "come back to me when you've won 13 titles". Well, 3 down 10 to go!
