11 children injured in Blyth park dog attack

Why should good dog owners be punished? For the same reason we have strict gun laws I guess. You can have 99.9% of gun owners who enjoy nothimg more than to legally hunt or go clay pigeon shooting but you only need one Michael Ryan to ruin it for the rest.

Where as I completely agree that it's generally the owners fault I support the idea that dogs such as staffs have the capacity to cause awful damage where as a Yorkshire terrier on the rampage would get laughed at!
I go in houses for work daily. I've seen staffs rolling on there belly for a tickle and I've also asked customers to lock the dog in the garden as it was a bit edgy. Unfortunately, I can gerealise about what sort of person has the nasty staffy and vise versa.

It's high time any dog breed with a propensity for doing harm should be much much closely controlled than a breed that isn't. Sad fact of life I'm afraid.

Ps I've had dogs all my life, currently a springer spaniel and a jackapoo, chose specifically for there gentle nature rather than something that makes me look 'ard!
Ok, and just to state i and many others have never picked a Staffie as a status symbol...

I choose Staffies based on their loyalty, size, and ability to regularly run with me.

I'd choose an Alsation or husky but my. House is slightly too small for that breed of dog.

more people get bitten by Labradors than any other breed, maybe just because there are more of them. I'd take a Staff over an Alsation any day for temperament but having said that I know some beautiful alsations. Cats rule anyways

Certain breeds should be neutered/spayed so they are the last of their breed.

My sister shows Rhodesian Ridgebacks which are big but very good natured. She used to show other breeds. Each breed has their own traits and breeders try to continue those traits.

certsin breeds are just too dangerous and should not be legal.

One of those on our road got put down for savaging it's owner, the lad lost the use of his left arm. Should have walked the dog more often than twice a year, fed it lower calorie food and paid it more attention, he was warned by myself and a few others it was going to happen.

Shocking that these types of bastard evil dogs can be kept as so called pets.

I've got a Border Collie. Hyper, territorial breed that are generally only loyal to their master, tough as hell. If you trained a Border Collie to be vicious as people do with pits and staffs and put it in the scenario above the damage would be far, far worse. Do you think we should stop people keeping them as pets? Staffs are great dogs, any dog with a shit owner is a danger.

Any dog if treated badly can become a nutcase... but certain breeds have traits that go beyond.

Is it possible to cross a pitbull/ staff type dog with something bigger? Only reason I ask is my nephew and I were walking in France about 15 years ago when this man came along with this dog on a leash. My nephew said it was the biggest pitbull he'd ever seen. We stroked it and it was wagging it's tail . Neither of us are fluent enough in French to ask what type of dog it was . We tried and the FRenchman kept thinking we were asking the dogs name. As we didn't know word for type/kind/breed. It had all the pitbull features but was much bigger and looked leaner and faster. I'd put the dogs weight at around 10 stone. To this day it's always puzzled me as to what the hell it was.
