12th April Pubs Go Live (well outside anyway).

Its a tab but some places if you fail to show or cancel early enough they pocket said money
Quite right as well. The local near us did a booking system and loads booked but didn't show last time. First come first served now. I would happily pay a deposit for a meal when booking. It cost the small business loads in wasted food and income.

so in Manchester, or other places, are people being offered drinks to have just stood about on the pavements or whatever?

i tried my arm at my local (Morecambe) and it was booking only, sit down only, very busy but very controlled. i've heard a lot of friends saying they've rocked up to places and it be a bit more piecemeal

Town is is walk ins first come first served, none of the pubs/bars were doing pre bookings or time limits, stroll up, find a table if you can and wait to be served, stay as long as you like

Seems a lot more places than I expected are doing walk-ins along with bookings or walk-ins only. Guessing that's because they don't want people booking space then not turning up which makes sense.

I'm impressed with some of the lengths a few of the pubs near me have gone to so they can open up today. Some impressive utilisation of space, and going forward even after we've fully gotten on top of this pandemic I can see this being a permanent thing with a lot more people indulging in outdoor drinking.
It was great to see the city come back to life.

After my lad gave me a cut at 6.30pm we actually couldn't find anywhere with space as a walk-up on the route from Albert Square to Ancoats, with hundreds walking round looking for places.

I never book, prefer the spontaneous decisions. Quite a few pubs locally complaining about no-shows, or folk booking tables for whole afternoon then moving on after half an hour, It'll settle down soon enough.

I didn't see anyone drinking on pavements in Manchester or Sheffield yesterday, bar the tinnies from Ancoats General or Co-op of course !

Why some people felt the need to have a pint at 8:00am this morning in the freezing cold was beyond me.

I was thinking that it was quite a good thing the weather was a bit nippy yesterday. This date last year the temperature was in the high 20's. It'd have been carnage everywhere if we'd had that this week!
