Started to get his swagger back in the second half with a few lovely defensive touches. Few more games in his legs and we’ll start to see the best of him again.

I thought he looked the good defender we all know he his. Looks ever so slightly uncomfortable on the ball when he finds himself at LB.

I think him being picked at LB for what I presume was his height turned out to be a bit superfluous, although it was good to see him get minutes.

Although I think he looked really really good once he went to CB. I don't think we should underestimate how physically large he is.

Noticed a really high quality recovery sliding tackle, towards the end of the second half in our own area, facing our own goal line. Took me a while to figure out who it was but it was Runeneque.

Hard to judge him (or any of the defence, being honest) on that game tonight. They won't have much quieter games. Burnley missing their two battering rams (Barnes and Wood) tonight.

Played well tonight, think he might get the nod for LB on Sunday. I seem to recall in the 0 - 0 when Mahrez missed the penalty he was at LB and he totally snuffed out Salah.

Might be a three from now on with right or left back cutting in. Laporte had a very bad injury and it takes time mentally too.

Thr back 4 from tonight has a future, particularly against the weaker sides where we will have 80% possession. Not done much wrong since his return, let's hope he can get fully sharp as him and stones in a back 3 could really help with our approach play.

I fear the same setup against Liverpool will leave a tad too much space for Salah on the counter. That moment when we lose possession and so many players (Laporte, Stones, Cancelo) have to quickly adjust to revert to the back 4, there’s space to take advantage of until they do. It’s all well and good against Burnley but a quick countering team like Liverpool could exploit it.

I agree. We will need pace in our defence, so I'm guessing we'll play Kyle on the right and Cancelo on the left. They can try to attack us through the middle, if they enjoy running full speed into a blue brick wall.

Laporte is a great centre half but those comments last night were needless and either thoughtless or deliberately unhelpful for the squad.
No one has the right to demand more game time ("Ill see what happens between now and the end of the season")..it has to be earned...he was rightfully dropped and its up to him to get his place back.
As well as he has played for us from day one he has always seemed aloof and slightly disconnected from the fans/club..
Then there is the question of why he doesnt get picked for his country as it's certainly not down to ability.

We cant afford to have any player who is not 100% committed .....if he is unhappy then sell and go for that Kounde lad we were connected with over the summer....

If he is happy to stay and be a squad player like everyone else then thats also great as he is a fantastic player.

I think if Laporte goes, Ake just steps up as the number 3 in my opinion and then someone like Harwood-Bellis gets a shot in the same way as Garcia did (Pep and the club clearly rate THB given they nearly stopped him going out on loan).

I don't think he will leave, but I do think we're going to have a very hard time keeping both Laporte and Ake happy - it's going to be hard enough keeping 1 of them content with game time.

Game time is earned, I completely agree, but it's also more difficult in the CB position when you have two players like Dias and Stones who have built up a solid partnership/understanding of each other. It makes it a lot harder to chop and change, like we do on the wings, for example.
