City of course!!
One thing f the strangest games I've ever been too.

James up front and the Folwer penalty miss which meant we didn't qualify for Europe

The day Jon Macken's Agent realised he'd be getting another payday with an imminent transfer. Only City could send on a Goalkeeper to play up front instead of a £5 million Striker.

Such a shame those days are gone.

What a strange day.

Wore next season’s away kit at home.
Played David James up front when boyhood City fan Jon Macken was on the bench and it would have been his final game for the club.
Although, again strangely, James was actually really dangerous and caused havoc, but it was still madness!
JFH scored arguably the best goal ever at the Etihad.
Mark Swartzer was a City player for one week, way back, and in Typical City fashion he saved a last minute penalty to deny us a place in Europe and gain that place for Boro.
And of course, it was Boro, our bogiest of bogey teams, who ended up actually getting to the UEFA Cup final that following year!
Atmosphere was great and we even sang Blue Moon at the final whistle loudly despite just missing that penalty to miss out on Europe.

Bizarre!

i was livid about that kit - had it been a meaningless end of season game fair enough but we needed a win and it kind of deflated the fans when they came out with it on, not one fan in the ground wearing the colours of the home team.
I fucked the usual lap of honour / round of appluase off as that too was used as a marketing exercise to promote the new kit.
I wrote to Alistair Mackintosh asking him who made the decision to wear the kit and he replied it was a joint decision agreed by everyone including the manager.
I replied back and said "OK, but who thought of the idea and suggested it?" He never replied!

John Macken was definitely a boyhood united fan.
