18/19 home and away kits ?

it's not the preferred colour and its resurgence under Soriano City suggests it's the management or Nike at work. Certainly they've taken the use of navy to a whole different level to anything we've seen in the past. Navy was a third trim colour and the historic (but not now preferred) sock colour. Now it's our shirt sleeve colour, it's also completely replaced white (the mandatory trim colour) on the kit at times, that's why people have actually turned off having any navy at all on the kit because it's been so misused.

I'm not sure if you're a relatively new fan, but navy has been on our kits from the mid 80s, all the way through the 90s and 00s. The only two kits I can remember with no navy whatsoever was the first two Umbro kits after we went back to them.

It's absolutely not a Sorriano thing to "re-introduce" navy. It's been a staple of our kit for the best part of the last 30 years. In fact, we've haven't had navy socks once since the takeover, despite it being the colour of socks we've worn most in our history (over 80 years). So if anything, navy has become a less prominent colour in recent years than in the past.

Bring back the navy socks.

sky blue socks with maroon and white all the way. Anything from the 90s pre-Umbro were largely tosh kits in an era where we were largely a clusterfuck as a club and had a really muddled identity both on and off the pitch. Umbro re-defined kits and brought back a clear idea on our history and identity which I loved, they dropped the ball towards the end but the first 2 were stunning, and what we should have nearly all the time. Our identity is all over the place at the moment and hopefully if we go back to tradition with a touch of maroon next season then that's where we'll stay (by and large). Maroon on sky blue socks has ushered in our 2 most successful periods so for me it's a good omen, keep it on the kit as the third colour with white and sky blue.

on that point, next 5 years of home kits for me would be along the lines of:

manchester_city_2009-2010.gif
manchester_city_2015-2016-1st.gif

and away would be:

consistent home identity, 5 modern versions of great and classic away kits and colours. How hard is it...

Umbro made our kit throughout the 80s and most of the 90s, mate. We had navy trim on pretty much every kit, and navy socks on the majority of them.

The 08-10 kits with no navy on at all were very much the exception to the rule over the last 30 odd years.

Agreed
Sky blue shirt
White shorts
Sky blue socks with maroon turnover

Stop fucking about

it'll be shit whatever it is. Nike are wank. In fact, if it's the shirt that I've seen on some sites, it's exactly the same shirt as this year but a lighter blue and without the different colour sleeves.

That whole kit slightly updated would sell thousands. Surely thats what Nike want?

It depends which sells best worldwide, not to just match going fans. I always liked the red and black striped away and the white with black and red diagonal stripe but apparently those didn't sell well at all despite being many people's favourites. They will go for whichever they think will sell the most, regardless of how long-term fans feel about it.
