I agree with your post. I wonder if there's a case like Brazil do with Ederson and Alison of rotating the main keeper and selecting depending on the opposition and who's in the best form?

I know it's not a common football practice for a goalkeeper but Pep is a leader of innovation in football.

There's a very good argument for having 2 excellent goalkeepers at a club. I strongly feel it would be a big mistake to let Ortega leave.

I just can't see either keeper seeing that situation as being in their best interests. Particularly Ortega as he's making up for lost time having not won much prior to his time at City. He's that good he ought to be eyeing being Germany's keeper at the next world cup. He stands a much better chance playing week in week out as an undisputed number one elsewhere. and plenty of big sides challenging for top honours would gladly take him.

As I said earlier, I would be very happy having him the number one here. I was just trying to introduce a way of keeping Ederson a little happier also.

Why?

At the end of the day, we signed him for a free, took him out of the German second division and put him in the biggest games in the world. A 30 year old guy who’d barely seen top flight football has had the chance to win trophies and he repaid that.

Both parties have done very well out of this signing.

If he wants to leave, that’s OK, we’ll get £25m or so and everyone’s done amazingly out of the deal.

If he wants to stay, that’s great as well, he’s the best backup in the world and he’s raised Ederson’s game too.

There’s no need to bend over backwards and make up silly rules. Pep already gives his second choice keepers the cups INCLUDING FINALS which is more than anyone else does.
I don’t see him going anywhere, his wife is due to drop in August and they have been trying to hire a full time nanny recently.

You have to give enormous credit to our scouting system for Stefan's signing.

He played for a team that was relegated from the Bundesliga, but they must have spotted something about him. Fair fucks to them, he has been a brilliant signing and is quite possibly the best number 2 in the world.
