He’s clearly finished at the top level, it happens to all great players, but if he and the club have any sense he’ll be straight into Pep’s coaching team next season. Even as assistant manager.

Worth having him back in the City fold for that and this season’s performances will be quickly forgotten.

I still maintain that some of the blame he’s got from a lot of fans is undeserved, he’s been asked to do a job he didn’t apply for this season.

Gundo has more credit in the bank than Jeff Bezos in my opinion.
With you all the way on the above.

But why is he ideally suited ? Why not Fernandinho, Zabaleta, Andy Morrison, Shaun Goater, Nigel De Jong, ??

Do you need it explaining that yes, Ilkay Gundogan would be better suited to working in Pep Guardiola’s coaching setup in 2025 than Andy Morrison?

Not sure if you’ve had a few beers or the mrs made you take the bins out so you’re in a foul mood or something, but time to have a break from the internet mate.

I need to understand why you think a coaching position should be handed to an ex player just because you like him, what credentials as a coach does he have? , definitely not leadership based on the last few months, or tactical awareness based on the fact he has no idea where he should be on the pitch while playing as a 6.

Yeah what possible leadership and coaching qualities could a treble winning club captain who’s spent several years doing his coaching badges and coaching City’s youth team possibly have to offer.

You’re right, let’s get Andy Morrison in instead.

On the ignore list you go.

Or the fact it’s rumored he came up with the centre back into midfield whilst doing his coaching badges and suggested it to Pep, he’s articulate and clearly popular with the players. I said at the start he would do a year then end up on the coaching staff, possibly succeeding Pep.

They are very different personalities, so it’s a strange question.

Spotting a potential top coach is very tricky. Some of the big names actually had modest playing careers. I’ve no idea whether Gundo will make it but he’s articulate, highly personable, widely respected, a cultured player and a guy who has captained a first class footballing country. Oh, and he’s already made a start by gaining a coaching qualification. So not entirely shabby.

The fact that he can no longer get around the pitch as well as before is not - as you cheekily suggested - an Indication of tactical naivety.

Well that was the first game in ages where he didn't look like he was past it, I'm not sure he can do the same thing against PSG and Chelsea though.

Was sharp and still showed glimpses of being a very useful player but against our rivals it is probably a step too far.
