All the uncs looked great/decent again when we went down to one game a week. We dont have the option to do that again to carry them.

He's had a little return to form after he was moved further forward. Legs are an issue and I hope we dont plan on using him for 90 mins but hes still got something going forward, just dont ask him to run the other way. I expect he'll see out his last year with us and if he's used appropriately I dont see a problem.

Yep the uncs also take minute from players like Reilly and Gonzalez which is a problem. We all know Pep will use them in some games which is not wrong but will slower the rebuild.
Would also help for a smaller squad if all 3 move.

Had a good end to the season. I hope he sticks around next year as his experience will be important to any midfield newcomers. Can easily play cup competitions and finish off games that are seemingly won (like was probably the intention for this season)

Gundo age 34 still has the footballing brain to be effective - however, looking at this season you could see clearly his performances when he had a proper defensive midfielder alongside him - Nico - were very good. When he had either older, less mobile players alongside him or the likes of Rico going into central space he looked slow and out of sorts.

If Rodri, Nico & perhaps a new signing with pace and power are part of our midfield make up Gundo will still have a role to play he's that smart. Question is would he be happy with a much reduced role next year of will it be time for him to have a final swan song in Turkey?
I do not think he was expecting 50 games this season ;-)

Would be ideal to be used like final game 2022 - impact sub. Maybe next year then straight into town coaching staff if he wants that?

I dont think the plan was for Gundogan to have such a big role this year - i feel he came back to be very much a squad player and someone to come off the bench to help close games down. Injuries and form meant he had to play 3 times a week in a diminished midfield.

For the role he was brought back to do next year i think he is perfect

Gundogan recognised for his work promoting tolerance and acceptance of peoples. Not much of that in this cuckoo’s nest, mind.

Because thats not the point of a performance thread

Marcus Rashford also does some fantastic work off the field. Should we start a thread for him? Perhaps recruit him to City? Demand he be put back on the national team?

Nothing personal here, don't like when we use emotional arguments that are nor relevant to the topic at hand.

The issue here is whether Ilkay should come back next season for footballing reasons. There are legitimate arguments on both sides.

That he is a fantastic human off the field makes him a good choice as an ambassador for the club. But last oi checked, ambassadors are not required to be on the 25 ( or is it 21 now) man roster to accomplish that role

Anyway, either way. I'll still be a fan.

I guess we may now have the answer if the rumours of a Galatasaray move are true. Makes sense for him and his family.
