Is it the back 4, or the lack of cover?

Today we had Sylvinho struggling at left back, Onouha making a rare start, and an injury in the build up to Sunderland's 1st goal to Richards. That didn't help.

I think that individually City's 1st choice back 4 are very good, and they have been repeatedly caught out and exposed because there's no organisation in front of the back 4. One punt up front leaves City defending 1 on 1.

But we have a more immediate problem: Injuries to Lescott and Bridge.

Hopefully Bridge will be back soon, but who plays at centre back? I think we have to move Kompany there as Toure will be off to the African Nation Cup

I'm sure the defence will be 10 times better under mancini. Will be alot more defensive gameplan but i think bridge will be replaced and maybe a new centre back bought in. Individually they are good players,i can't understand why it is so bad, i don't know what Hughes was making them play but it definatley changed over the season.

Mancini is italian , and he'll make a priority of sorting the defence out , that's what italians do ....... so expect someone like Toure , who is all over the place , and in my view an erratic defender , to make way for someone else ..... and he won't be the only one either!

I've always considered Kompany as a typical centre half, he's no midfielder really, he could be made captain eventually too once he gets going again he's been injured too often

Bridge is one of the better defenders in the Premiership...surely you saw more evidence of that today?

Back four or lack of cover?

Both

Lack of positional discipline of the central midfielders and our defenders has left us vulnerable too many times. They often get caught out upfield when the opposition breaks.

'A place for every player and every player in his place' (with the exception of set-pieces)would be a helpful motto for Mancini.

I hope that he is able to get us to play like a team - Chelski game apart we seem to rely on individual performances and the piss poor defending is just a sympton of that -

I think one of the issues is that everyone looks at each other for leadership back there, finds none, and tries to sort it themselves, hence one telling the other to do something, then someone else telling said person to do something else. Look at the organisation from throw ins. It's a shambles and has been all season.

Sort that out and it'll be a good start.

The critics of the sacking make some valid points that it takes time to build a team. We have enough good players. We just need to organise them, and stress defending a little more

I don't want to see Chiellini anywhere near City. Everytime I watch him he plays badly. Not a big fan of Italian football, but I only see it when Italy play, or the European cups
