Loads of blues mentioning how it'd be fitting to turn the singing of "abide with me" into a tribute to Young and Allison and even Blues that aren't with us anymore.

In recent years most clubs just stand doing nothing during it. Be good if we could bring back the tradition of singing it. Its only 90 seconds!

Be fitting for us all to have our scarves in the air at this point and use it as a tribute. Then leave all the tributes and nostalgia and get behind the lads!

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes;
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee;
In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

If you dont want to then dont but for me itd be a much more fitting and poignant tribute to past legends than turning backwards and jumping up and down!

Thought this warranted its own thread to try to get blues behind the ideas that had been suggested in that thread, some really good suggestions that people may have missed.

Think theres enough room for two loosely related threads in amongst the sea of waffle.

For those blues who don't know the words print them off and hold in one hand and SING, while with the other take the red and black scarf and whirl it round your head. That would in my view be a fitting tribute to both Nelly and big Mal.

Good idea in principle but can we tread carefully...

Somewhere in the back of my memory there's a tale that 'Abide With Me' was first played/sung at a Cup Final in tribute to the then late Prince Albert. Now, I'm no royallist (there's an understatement) and I may even be wrong with the tale above but whatever the origin, it's got a heap of tradition behind it.
Us lot coming along and looking like we're hijacking it might not come across so well. It's not as if certain sections of the media are wont to take our side at the best of times so let's not give them any ammunition.

I know that the intention is all for the good here and I don't want to offend anybody's sense of goodwill. Please believe me on that point.

If we are lucky enough to win the cup, there'll have been a lot of blues who didn't make the thirty five year journey, through no fault of their own. Some of them will have been famous, most will have been joe soaps just like you and me. It's right that we should remember them all; win, lose or draw. Let's keep it simple and dignified, though. We don't want to make a circus out of our grief. There's far too many at that game already.

Submitted with respect.
