Just thought this was going under the radar somewhat.
A strange coincidence for me that in 1981 we appeared in the 100th FA Cup final. Now this season we'll appear again when Wembley is 100 years old (yes I know it's been rebuilt but no-one else seems to care about that fact.
Could be a future quiz question!!
(Sorry if it has been brought up)

A very selfish post....

But was 50 years ago today the biggest ever cup final shock....

Leeds United 0 Sunderland 1

Back in those days, before I'd witnessed the delights of a visit to the land that time forgot, I actually (whisper it) wanted L***s to win. One of a minority across the land, I'd imagine. Reason being, you basta fine gentlemen had knocked us out in an earlier round (5th?) after a replay up at Roker. So I wanted you to lose. Bitter? Yes. Vindictive? Absolutely.

I have Dave Watson as a contact on Facebook ( his wife Penny runs his account) and there's been loads of photos and stuff about reunions and recollections by the 1973 Sunderland team.
And of course as well as Big Dave, Dennis Tueart and Mickey Horswill from that side are also ex City players.

Bitterness is part and parcel of being a football fan

I still remember it vividly.

When Ian Porterfield scored, I went mad. My Mum pointed out that there was still a long way to go.

And then, there was that great double save from Jim Montgomery.

What a day; what a result.

That save is what always comes to mind from that game and the manager on the pitch at 90mins in his long coat.

Back to the original thread topic, bet there's not too many of us who'll be able to say we went to the two games in '81 and the one this year.

Being landmark games maybe we should be able to buy something like a tie with the matches on it.

First cup final I remember.
My uncle who supported Salford RLFC was very much anti leeds. Never did find out why as he hated football.
Didn’t really understand why it was such a big thing at the time.
Looking back now it really was a brilliant achievement.
