I still don't understand how Giggs didn't booked for his late challenge in the first half half.

Soon as he got a 'word' off Dean, I said it's due to his name and stature, got given to much respect.

TBH I didn't want Rooney to get sent off, I love watching him play agaisnt quality opposition at the moment. He has the look of an athlete who knows his best days are done and he can't quite come to terms with the fact. He's always been petulant but I think there's more to this than meets the eye. Even Tyler commented on him being knackered after 13 minutes, and justifying it because he's been injured. I'm sorry but a so called world class pro exhausted after 13 minutes, an absolute disgrace if you ask me. He's shot to pieces, lovely ;-)

If the challenge was on fat Wayne he would of gone screaming in the refs face and got our player sent off. They have no class just let them get on with it but dear o dear it’s fucking annoying watching them get away with it week in week out

Welbecks looks worse in my opinion.

Not really seen the Welbeck challenge from a decent angle as of yet so it's hard to make a judgment on that, but I honestly think the Rooney challenge would have been a harsh sending off.

Yellow card, yeah, about right.

His feet were low, it wasn't over the ball, it wasn't what you'd call excessive force and his second foot followed through pointing studs downwards. Not too dissimilar from a few of Kompany's challenges, that said Komp's has been sent off for them in the past so I've definitely seen them given as a red.

In a derby though, as a ref, I would ere on the side of caution and give the benefit of a doubt. Shame that Dean sort of lost it towards the end, handing out cards left, right and centre. I actually thought Rooney was lucky not to get sent off for dissent at one point.

They weren't that bad. It was a derby and there should be tackles like that - and Zaba's on Young - flying in. Young petulantly threw the ball at Zabs, Zaba purposely went and hurt him; that's what happens in sports like rugby, I'd like it to come back in football too. Wellbeck and Barry's challenge was good to see and although Rooney's was a bit dodgy, he rightly got booked.

This is a sport played by men, but the game has become so sanitised and supporters so whiney about shit that derby day tackles have almost been eradicated. That should never have happened. Thirty years ago - if there were Internet forums - this thread wouldn't exist.

Fuck it. There were meaty challenges going in all the time and nobody was sent off and we won; a perfect derby. I'd like football to be more like last night, please and everyone from players to fans to grow some balls and enjoy stuff like that.

Not that I don't agree with your sentiment (none of these tackles are reds, but VK's wasn't either) it is important to note how much bigger and faster the players have become. If the game were to be played your way, we'd probably have many many many more players careers being ended through injury than we have today. Just simple physics really.

If this logic was applied consistently throughout the game few I suspect would have a problem. But where the guidance from on high is that two-footed tackles are dangerous and warrant red cards, that ought to be applied consistently and universally.

If a player knows that a two-footed challenge will result in a red card he probably will not do it. As it stands, a two-footed tackle might end up in a red card, but it might not. And when a policy is applied inconsistently and one particular team appears to get the rub of the green in terms of decisions going for and against them more often than another, it is hardly surprising that it is a source of anger for many - especially where opponents surrounding and haranguing the referee appears to be a significant feature in the decision to issue a red card.
