2016-17 Champions League Qualifying Matches - (3rd Round, 2nd leg, page 10)

Just to get my head around how it works...

City are in the league route draw - and will be one of 5 seeded teams?

And there will be 5 unseeded teams with the draw pairing one from each?

Could be quite a fun European trip this one, especially in the summer time.
Just to make this clear.

We're one of five teams that go straight into the league side of the play offs. The winners of the five games being played this week and next who are also in that half of qualifying, join those five and the teams with the five highest coefficients at that point are seeded.

As the team with the highest coefficient, we know we're going to be seeded (as do a couple of other teams). However the final seeding will depend on who gets through after next week.

shouldn't there have been a fifth game last night? I'm trying to unpick who's left in this we could face.
We're in the League/Non-Champions Section and according to the authoritative (but unofficial) site http://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/

4th Qualifying Round (play-off round) August involving 20 teams split in two sections:
Champions section with 10 teams
10 winners from 3rd qualifying round

Non-Champions section with 10 teams
5 winners from 3rd qualifying round
2 third-placed teams from countries ranked 4-5
3 fourth-placed teams from countries ranked 1-3

and http://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/seedcl2016.html says

The first 5 come from Shakhtar (81.9), Ajax (58.1), Fenerbahce (40.9), Anderlecht (54.0), Sparta (40.5), PAOK (37.4), Steaua Bucharest (36.6), Monaco (36.5), Young Boys (24.7), Rostov (11.7)
And the second 5 are City (99.2), Porto (92.6), Villareal (60.1), Monchengladbach (42.0), Roma (41.5).

So Ajax-PAOK is 1-1 - assume PAOK sneak this one
Rostov-Anderlect is 2-2 - assume Anderlecht win this one
Sparta-Bucharest is 1-1 - assume Bucharest win this one
Shakhtar-Young Boys is 2-0 assume Shaktar win this one
Whats the Monaco-Fenerbahce situation?

So we're likely to face one of: Anderlecht/PAOK, Monchengladbach, Roma, Fenebahce/Monaco, Bucharest

Anderlect/PAOK hangs on the Ajax/PAOK game - if PAOK win, Anderlecht become seeded replacing Ajax and PAOK move into the unseeded group.
Fenebahce/Monaco hangs on their result but in either case they would both end up unseeded.

Have I got that right? And do we know which way round the ties will be? I assume as seeds we'll be at home second leg (23-24th August)

Perfect, thanks for detailed explanation. I hadn't really looked into it that much until this week, I hadn't even realised there were two routes to qualification. A couple of really tricky ties potentially. Very hard to gauge City at the moment as well because we've not seen a full strength side in a friendly yet. Dortmund will be a good test and I see we're planning on an additional friendly against a lower league side as final preparation.

It's all very complicated mate but home and away in our qualifying game is decided at the draw.

....which is a bit of an arse because I want to book a week off work and I don't know which week we'll be away :-(

1-0 Astana, header from a corner, keeper caught out on top of awful defending. Celtic started brightly too.

1-1, Roberts does the left back again for about the 100th time and puts it on a plate for Griffiths.

Patrick Roberts isan absolute diamond in that team. He is the only reason they have any kind of hope going forward in this tie so far and thats a great bit of work for the leveller.
Really dont see him as miles behind Sterling even now, and I'm a Sterling fan. Obviously you can say consistency but sheer talent is not in question and hes building a reputation up north, can't wait to see him back here a more rounded player
