2016-17 Champions League Qualifying Matches - (3rd Round, 2nd leg, page 10)

Essentially we complained because we kept getting difficult draws and it was bullshit that as champions we had to play Bayern Munich etc when Arsenal always had to qualify and would end up with an easy group. UEFA realised this wasn't right so changed the rules to allow the champions of each of the best leagues to be in Pot 1.

We ballsed up and haven't won the league since.

So Uefa listened to our complaints and changed their rules?

The only teams we cannot draw, so far, are Shakter, Porto, Villareal and Ajax. Therefore, we could get, Anderlecht, Borussia M, Roma, Fenerbahce, Sparta Prague, Steua Bucharest, POAK, Monaco, Young Boys or Rostov.
The ones highlighted are favourites to get through tomorrow. If that happens, seeds will be, in order, City, Porto, Shakter, Villareal and Anderlecht. Non-seeds, again in order, will be, Borussia M, Roma, PAOK Salonika, Steua Bucharest and Monaco.
Roma would probably be the worst option there, with PAOK or Monaco most favoured? Of course, any different results and all bets off!!

I wouldn't have Monaco down as favourites though (they're 2-1 down on aggregate), they were shite against Fenerbahce and I can't see them keeping a clean sheet at home which will put them in trouble.

The only teams we can't draw for sure atm are Porto and Villarreal, i'd also be inclined to include Shakhtar Donetsk as they won't throw away that 2 goal lead. Meaning it will either be Ajax, Anderlecht or Borussia Monchengladbach that take that final seeded position.

I think the ideal tie would be Anderlecht (should beat them and the travel isn't too bad) but for that to happen Ajax would need go through against PAOK, to ensure Anderlecht won't be seeded. Ajax were crap in the 1st leg so I wouldn't count on that either.

As its stands pretty much:

Seeded:
Manchester City
Porto
Shakhtar Donetsk (Pretty much, Beat Young Boys 2-0 in the 1st leg at home)
Villarreal

Unseeded:
Roma - (Classed them as unseeded, they can only be seeded if Shakhtar, Ajax and Anderlecht all go out, highly unlikely given Shakhtars 1st leg result).
Fenerbahce/Monaco
Steaua Bucharest/Sparta Prague

Undecided:

POAK vs Ajax - (Ajax are seeded if they go through, currently 1-1 on agg, losing on away goals), (PAOK unseeded if they go through).

Anderlecht vs Rostov - (Anderlecht are seeded if they go through and Ajax do not, if Ajax go through as well then Anderlecht will be unseeded), (Rostov unseeded if they go through).

Borussia Monchengladbach - (Can only be seeded if Ajax and Anderlecht go out, if one of them goes through they will be unseeded).

Just read they get a minimum of €7.5m now they're guaranteed at least Europa League football. Thats got to be massive for a LOI team.
Doubt it. Rovers got less than a million for making the Europa group stage in 2012 and they're the bigger of the two clubs. There's no big Irish tv deal for the European comps.

According to here, they'll earn a minimum of €2.4m for getting into the group stage of the EL. If they could nab a couple of wins in the group, that's near enough another €750,000. Not €7.5m, but still a serious wedge for a LOI side.

Delighted for Dundalk to get to the final knockout stage. Would love to see them make the champions league but just think they will fall at the last hurdle. Ideally they draw us and the game is held in the Aviva Stadium first leg would be the biggest money match for Dundalk to get in the teams that are left in it or a German team.

We can't face Dundalk, as they have come through the champions route, and we have come through the league route.

Can't remember which page this is on as thread has been merged, but yesterday it was released who we could possibly face.

And probably twice last week, and the week before that.....

Who we can face depends on how Shakhtar and Ajax do. If they both get through then they become seeded alongside us, Porto & Villareal with M'gladbach and Roma dropping into the unseeded pot.

That would mean we could draw Roma (ugh), M'gladbach and the winners of the Steaua/Sparta, Fenerbache/Monaco and Anderlecht/Rostov games.

As Shakhtar look pretty safe then Roma look like dropping into the unseeded pot. If Ajax slip up then M'gladbach stay as seeds and PAOK become the final unseeded team.
