This is the Premier League fines/sanctions tracker thread, as many indicated last year that it would be helpful to have one to record how the league dealt with player offences, fan incidents, and club behaviour, given there often seemed to be differing responses in past years based on the club involved (hopefully this will make it easier to see if that perception is accurate or not).

To kick things off:

How many fines will Burnley receive for the fan trouble in tonight’s match?

I’ll go with 50p and a strongly worded letter.

They made a big statement of intent at the start of last season about dealing with offenders, particularly pitch invaders.

That said, they’d nicked lighter boy before half time and the stewards dealt with the pitch guy before he could get near Alverez, so it would be a bit harsh punishing the club too much. Not sure what more they could have done?

A slight crossover from the Sky expenditure thread:

Burnley, fans bad behaviour dealt with:2
Liverpool, fans bad behaviour dealt with:0

I just started it off with the question of whether Burnley will receive any for last night’s incidents, as it was the first match of the season and these do not occur every match (especially not both).

However, to your more general point, fines are based on rules for safety and crowd control, so it often doesn’t matter if they reacted swiftly, they are still penalised for the incidents occurring at all. The fines are also meant to set both a precedent for future incidents and to act as deterrent to club systems, policies, and procedures becoming lax to allow them at all.

As far as your specific question about what more Burnley could have done last night: if we are being especially critical, they could have not allowed the invader on the pitch at all (from fan footage the invader did get further than authorities would likely be comfortable with).
