#21 | Ferran Torres - 2020/21 Performances

We were talking about this last night. We are reduced to taking pot shots these days, we simply aren't creating opportunites of the quality we have been used to

I keep noticing how often we get down the wings, pull the ball back to the penalty spot - and nobody is running in to get on the end of it. This used to be bread and butter for us.

I think it has a lot to do with us not having the pace down the wings due to Sterling being played centrally and Torres still adjusting. Sterling and Sane were settled in their positions during those times, we have lost one of them and Sterling has been shifted all over the pitch. Wait for a few games with Aguero back and everyone back to their regular positions, it should come back.

There was a move we used to do with Sane and Silva that we haven't been able to do for a long time, the give and go or the wait and sprint. I think on the right side, Torres has the pace and ability to possibly do something similar with Sterling waiting on the end of it on the opposite side like he used to do with Sane. Hopefully given some time, we can get similar levels from Ferran.

he looked really lively against Burnley and then really lightweight against Leeds, keep on working Ferran. Surprised he's getting in the start XI although he probably wouldnt with one or two more back

Why don't we just wait and see instead of playing this stupid fucking game of pretending we know how good a young player is and then changing our minds every week depending on his latest performance?

I'm not trying to single you out but the ink on his contract is barely dry and people are already making stupid assumptions about how good he will or won't be.

Sane was wank for months, Bernardo was an invisible man for months, Mahrez took about a year to pass to anyone, Sterling took a season or two to really get going and the list goes on. Patience.
Even the great David Silva looked bobbins for the first few months of his City career.

Give Torres time, maybe even a full season before judgment.

And then, on the flip side, you've got a whole list of players who were lauded after their initial few appearances and then their level ends up dropping drastically. Negredo is the most obvious one I can think of.

How anyone can say he's not going to be as good as Sane is beyond me because are they talking about the Sane in his first few months for us, the Sane who ended up winning Young Player of the Year or the Sane who got benched in his third season because he was inconsistent and wouldn't follow his manager's instructions? What if Torres' best isn't quite as good as Sane's best but, once he's settled, he still performs at a top level every weekend?

These might be interesting questions to ask yourself but anyone saying they have the answers right now is being daft.
