23 years ago. Rovers away.

Generally pretty optimistic. Kinkladze had agreed to stay and we had a bit of a rally at the end of the 1996/7 season. We’d signed Bradbury and won a pre-season friendly at Burnley where we looked the business and Bradbury scored. I think most blues thought we’d challenge for promotion that season. I’d be surprised if more than a handful thought we’d go down.

Good memory. So that must have been the season we started off in glorious sunshine with a 2-2 draw at home to Portsmouth, with the Gallagher’s prancing about on the pitch beforehand.

Wiekens debut and a goal I think.

You’re right. Now you’ve refreshed my memory, there was a general feeling of good times ahead at that point.

Travelled overnight from Belfast to Liverpool then train. No ticket but watched it from the hill then back after few celebration beers. Hardly any sleep for 2 days. Would do it all again in a heartbeat if I wasn't so old now

Very hot day, sweating buckets had a City t shirt under a sweatshirt and jacket, concerned I'd be 'rumbled in the Jack Walker stand (I need not have bothered really!)
Blackburn battered us in the first half, we should have been 3 or 4 down at Half time, when Weaver made a save when he sat on the ball it was probably destined to be our day.
When the Goat equalised it seemed most of the ground erupted. Remember thinking how loud the away end was that day from my 'neutral' vantage point, still makes the hairs on my neck stand up hearing the City fans on the highlights!
Most of us realistic fans probably knew we'd go straight back down, but like many blues of a certain 'vintage' it will always be near the top of my favourite ever games!

Can’t believe that’s 23 years ago. Remember sitting on a wall outside garage after the game and having a can of lager thrust into my hand as the beer supply was emptied from the place. Could not believe how Blackburn were not out of sight before we equalised. Had a few mates travel with no tickets and who watched from the embankment who’d been outbid for tickets in Blackburn end. Great times doing the grounds and following the falls and rises and I have a pang of pity for those who have not seen it all but may just be the hankering of youth as it probably felt pretty shit on occasion at the time but don’t remember it that way.
Jamie Polllock signed my chest!!!!

The hill wouldn't let you see much would it? About a 4 metre slice? Was the goal visible at the Blackburn End?

Whenever this game is mentioned i think of the pub in Blackburn with the tv that somehow got taken off its mounting and out the door amid the celebratory carnage that ensued when Goater scored. Bodies falling, beer flying, then a tv was gone. (Or maybe it was after the own goal to make it 2-1.)
