24 | Joško Gvardiol - 2025/26

He seems a bit out of sorts at the moment. Wasteful in possession and getting caught on the wrong side a bit too often. We kept a clean sheet against the scousers though, so not going to dig him out too much. Could maybe do with a rest, but will obviously come good again.

He’s a little bit out of form but he still did well in a high pressure, high intensity game against the champions at still just 23 years old.

If it weren’t for Gvardiol last season, fuck knows where we’d have finished!

He’ll get back into top form soon.

He can't keep starting if he just constantly passes it to the opposition, Khusanov should partner Dias unless he cuts the errors, you're a CB mate not a winger, keep it simple.
He really needs to keep it simple. Too many 'way too cerebral, way too risky" passes in his Arsenal.

Played the entire last season, went to the club world cup, had zero time off, picked up an injury, missed pre-season and was immediately thrown back in when fit and has barely sat out since. No surprise whatsoever if he's feeling a bit jaded. Ake is there and fit, use him.

Been playing sloppy passes virtually all season with another few today. Really needs to cut it out.

Amazed he was there for the full 90 today and not his first dodgy performance recently. Not sure what the issue is but if Stones and Ake are fit after the international break, a bit of a rest might do him good

Agree with many, he needs a rest. But he’s still a formidable defender. He’s looked a little sloppy now and then. But he’s still defending well.
I’d also guess he’s missing Ederson the most, as he’s like Stones and will do anything but lump it, leading to the odd sloppy pass.

I also think it’s worth remembering that he’s fairly new to CB in this league. He had a lot more space and freedom at left back. He’s also very very young still, I think he’s class and is t far off the perfect defender.

I’m not sure we’re even watching the same games. Gvardiol has his shaky moments, sure, but even with that he’s miles, miles better than Stones and Aké. Both of them kill us with their mistakes whenever they play. Stones keeps messing up when we try to hold the offside line — even when it works, he slips. He slips a few times every match, and almost every time it gives the opposition a chance. We were a worse team when Stones was playing — that was especially obvious in the games against Tottenham and Brighton.

Aké looks like he’s playing in slow motion. Injuries have completely ruined him.

The only one with the right physical attributes to replace Gvardiol is Khusanov.

And putting all that aside — our record with Dias and Gvardiol as the starting CB partnership is immense. There’s no reason to change it.

I think people either don’t see it or don’t even care but the amount of times Dias plays the pass to gvardiol at the last second to put him under pressure. It happens at least 5 times a game.
For me he had a very good game. If you are a CB and there‘s 3 players around you and certain team mates still pass you the ball - it’s not always your fault that you are going to lose the ball.

Still balling Dias out whenever he loses a footrace or whatever

He was a bit sloppy at times but I'd still start him every game. I think him & Dias are our strongest centre back pairing.

Agree with everything you said there.

Stones and Ake can be rotated in for the League Cup and easier CL matches.

Khusanov looks too raw yet, though.
