25 | Gianluigi Donnarumma - 2025/26

I am on another planet to you all.

He is shite with his feet and its having an impact.

I don’t get all the fan boying
He makes the same mistakes Eddy makes when playing high risk passes.

Don't understand why we even try those. We really need to pass out sooner before the press sets. There are 5-6 high pressure teams in the league now.

I dont expect Eddy's long ball accuracy. But short passing can be improved by urgency get it out and get it moving and get it to Bernie or Gonzo to make the decisions on how to break the press.

Keeper should ALWAYS go safety first. Which means pass to the CBs or Fullbacks out wide. And let them do the job of getting it to Bernie or Gonzo.

He is great coz he keeps us in games with great saves. Eddy did this a lot too. Albeit got less credit for it. But he does it more regularly.

That said, I am more interested in him improving his presence on crosses. He is too big and strong to be letting all these tiny runts block or push him off his spot.

62.5% of those who voted in the MOTM thread disagree...
Really? I think that is a giant leap. I myself had him second for motm after Nunes, simply because he did his job, and few others did.

If Allison or Raya made the exact same saves, nobody would be claiming they were anything other than standard saves. Did anybody on commentary or punditry make a remark about any of them? Any keeper in this league or the championship, that doesnt save all those efforts, gets slaughtered for it and rightly so.

Donnarumma has made some brilliant saves since signing, none of them were against Newcastle.

You can repeat yourself as many times as you like - I merely pointed out that your assumption that virtually everybody agrees with you is way off the mark...

Newcastle wouldn’t have had all the shots that he needed to save.

Our build up and possession is shite.

There is a reason Guardiola teams dominate and we are not dominating.
last season we had all the possession and nothing to show for it, this season we having less possession but actually able to create very good chances for haaland hence his unreal form. i would much rather have less possession and play to the best no9 strengths than dominate possession, there's always gonna be teething issues playing a newish style.

You're vastly over rating the shots he saved at the weekend. He has made some great saves in previous games but nothing he faced at the weekend was anything more than an ordinary save, they kept hitting it straight at him.

His best save was the one that was flagged for offside (although i don't actually think he was) but even that was a fairly standard one.
Do you not think that goalkeeping is just as much about what we don't see? i.e. Donnarumma putting the work in before the shot is taken so that he's already in the right place to block it? We used to say this about De Gea, that every shot he faced felt like it was straight at him. Probably because he'd already forced the striker to shoot where he was already going.

At the game on Saturday one of the lads in the box is an ex goalkeeper coach at City. Very interesting to listen to his take on Donnaruma's stance when the opposition are about to shoot. He reckons he has reinvented this aspect and in future everyone will be doing
