There were times last season, including the final, where he just loses concentration and will do something wild. But i thought as a team we were really poor in concentration levels, even guys like Bernardo were struggling to keep the ball so can't single out Akanji. I do wonder whether we should go back to 4 CB's with Akanji as the RB for now.

It was very successful for us last season, for the most part we looked rock-solid at the back. A new contract and more so the captaincy for Walker has screwed us a little here.

He didn't do anything wrong, though... What do guys expect of him? To turn into KDB?

He completed 51/58 passes, wasn't dispossessed, and made 7 recoveries. He played perfectly fine today IMO.

- He gets lost when we lose the ball, like nowhere to be seen lost.
- Doesn't know when to drop back into defence, like he doesn't sense danger
- He doesn't allow Rodri to get forward like Stones being there does.
- His passing and ball carrying is league 1 compared to what a midfielder in our team should be or when compared to John.
- He didn't make a single tackle or interception today.

What's he doing in mid outside of passing sideways? We always look immediately better as soon as Lewis steps in there instead

The only thing I agree with you about is Lewis.

If what you're saying is true, and he's crap at all the things you listed, clearly it's on Pep and not Akanji. After all, he's a CB, being asked to play as a midfielder in the best team and league in the world.

Hes not blaming anyone. Hes pointing out that akanji isnt good enough. Its not his fault. Hes worth the £16m (or whatever) we played for him and thats it

He was at fault for their second goal. The decision to play the pass infield to Alvarez was brain dead. He had Walker at RB in acres of space and Walker had a nice easy pass into Foden ahead of him. What on earth did he expect Alvarez to do with that ball with a Spurs defender on him? Just high risk low reward football. Utterly dumb.
