I've said for quite a while that the overall play of our attackers is very poor. Neither of our wingers create anything and are both extremely guilty of giving the ball away too easily. The only way you can get away with the levels of performance, is if you have good numbers to gloss over it a bit.I think though, that in legitimately criticising Mahrez, people are letting the others have a free ride.
All the attacking players are guilty of similar stuff, even Sterling.
In Sterlings case, he has that. If you compare him with Mane, his overall play is way below Manes level but his goal tally right up there with him. It is hard to argue with a guy that scores 20+ goals a season from a wide forward position and lets face it, without his goals we would be right up against it.
With Mahrez, his overall play is poor and he simply doesn't have the numbers to get away with it. With his level of performance, he either has to be an assist king, or score at a similar rate to Salah. He does neither. I have no doubts he will finish the season in double figures for goals and assists (all comps) and with that, some will say how good he has been (like last season, when some on here were labelling him our 2nd best player) but for me it isn't anything like good enough...he isn't anything like good enough.
