I personally think it's not that he's different at right back, it's just when he's at right back it means we don't have Walker playing. Walker brings us so much security to how we play and I think that gives Cancelo more opportunity to defend higher up the pitch which is his strong point.

We don't have a LB Walker to give us that opportunity when Cancelo is at right back. And Cancelo can't defend the specific way Walker does to the same level.

Walker is the keystone to our defence.

If he was on the pitch today Martinelli doesn’t get a kick and all of Arsenals countering threat is gone - and that’s 95% of the problems they caused us.

It’s very hard for Joao to outperform that through attacking output, it’s impossible over a whole season which is why he’ll always be second choice RB and have to play wherever he can to get on the pitch.

I'd wager that Walker is currently the most irreplaceable guy in our team, which feels almost ironic given his relative lack of ability in possession and Pep Guardiola being the manager.

It's no slight on Cancelo, but Walker is probably the best counter-attack prevention device in football.

Yes I agree re Walker.

But I'd also add that Cancelo IS actually better at left back because we mostly build our attacking play on the left, with the right side being used more for transitions ro switches. I guess he isn't better, but he fits our attacking system better if that makes sense.

This is a huge plus for Cancelo because he is so tricky on the ball and links up well on the left side with his winger and midfield partner. The dynamic of him cutting in and crossing has been a strong weapon of his.

I feel our attack lately has been weaker without Cancelo on that left side. Zinchenko or Ake cannot carry the ball on that left side like he can.

I also find that Cancelo is better at LB. I think him being able to come in from the left, plays better towards his skill set, picking out passes/crosses which he has been so good at this season. Also allows him to cut in and get the occasional shot.

3 games and an assault in 7 days. He's a fighter. Hope he gets a bit of a break.

In terms of importance Walker doesn't make top 5 for me. Ederson, Dias, Rodri (especially, given that Ferna is the replacement), Bernardo and possibly Foden (or Cancelo!) are all more important than Walker.

We have as many clean sheets without Walker as with him. How did we do when he was out injured last season? We won all games! Cancelo has been the better (and more important) player this season, including defensively wise! They defend in different ways, Cancelo is far better higher up the pitch (most interceptions in the league), and Walker is better at defending counters in our half.

A ton of talent, no doubt, but he needs to improve from a tactical stand point. Gives up far too many cheap free kicks, turns the ball over doing silly tricks, etc.
