Going forward he was decent, offered a threat and provided some decent balls but he stepped forward too much today and left laporte exposed, didn't cost us so wasn't a large concern, especially when we were going for the win but probably should have cost us. Was one inexplicable moment where they had the potential to break and instead of following a man back to his left back role and provide numbers back, he ran forward almost ahead of the ball expecting a very weird pass that didn't happen, it instead completely bypassed him and I think that led to the Broja chance that laporte/ederson blocked.

Sometimes Pep changes how Cancelo plays from game to game.

He either predominantly plays wide like a traditional fullback or inverted.

Today he played wide and wasn't as effective, perhaps this was to free Foden more so tactically I get it from Pep, but I prefer inverted Cancelo.

Sometimes you step back and realize what an incredible footballer Joao actually is. Can dribble past defenders like a winger, ability to pick out passes both long and short like a midfield playmaker, excellent ball technique and control, all these in the package of a full back. I wonder sometimes if Pep and co. foresaw Cancelo's development when they traded Danilo over.

IMO, Cancelo is one of the most exemplary reflection of Pep's coaching; Yes you are good, but Pep will make you better.

Wonderful player, his technical ability is off the scale and his will to win not far behind.

Particularly enjoyed the Brentford coach approaching him immediately on the final whistle and singling him out for special praise. It was deserved.

Would have loved to seen what he said, you could see cancelo was buzzing after it

Cancelo's the most complete FB in the world. Alexander-Arnold's attacking stats are very impressive, but he's de facto Liverpool's only creative player bar Salah and Klopp has organized most of their attacks around him. We have many creative players and are not heavily reliant on Cancelo to make things happen in attack. Cancelo is much more versatile than TAA, he can defend better both on the ground and in the air, he can play both at RB and LB, his acceleration is superior, his dribbling is superior, etc. Great signing even at 60m.
