I am putting my stick down and backing Nunes as our starting Right back for the foreseeable future.

I know many won't like it, and am happy for us to bring in competition. But i think he is about to lock the RB position down.
If he's starting at right back next season then we've had a shite summer with transfers.

Outside of Vanderson, i dont see anyone who's out right better out there.

I think many underestimate what he brings.
I think people are living in cuckoo land if they think there is another defender like Walker out there that we can just go and get.

Right backs are in short supply across the game, never mind those that we could even get.

People are massively under estimating how good Nunes has been this year in that position.

People have made their bed and just won't change their views

He's far from perfect, but I seriously don't see anyone out there who is light years ahead of him, and I think he'll improve even further the more he plays

Look at that first goal today, he wins the header and keeps running, ends up creating the opening goal

That's 14 G/A this season which is the most he's ever produced, largely from playing full back

He'll give the odd goal away, but I don't see many fullbacks these days that don't

Was solid as a rock, pur best attacking threat and thr opener comes from him, but, he miscontrolled it once and let the ball run out for a throw in in their half so release him on a free tomorrow....

Brilliant again. Cements his 3rd place in player of the season awards after gvardiol and kovacic. Would have absolutely no issues with him being our starting right back next season, he's earned it, improving weekly and has everything we need.

Mighty impressive with Nunes’s progression as RB for us.

He’s got all the characteristics of a good RB…strong, athletic & skilful.

Provides an attacking presence who can whip a ball in as well as great recovery pace at the back we’ve not seen since Walker’s days.

Exactly what we were missing with the overlapping runs in the FA cup final.

He’s beginning to cut down on the defensive mistakes & I would say he was more solid than Gvardiol on the other side who gave up far too much space today & where Fulham looked to exploit his side more than often.

Fair play to the lad and I have been one of his biggest critics however I would leave him there if I am honest and concentrate on a real left back.

You think there aren' t better full backs than Nunes ,who really isnt a full back?? We are f....d then , but luckily this really isn't the case.

I noticed you didn't name any. Can you give a few names that are head and shoulders better ee can go get?

I didn't say there weren't any better, I said not many that are lightyears ahead of him, and more importantly, available.

Dumfries and Hakimi are the only fullbacks that I'm aware of that are top class, and ironically, are both plating in the champions league final next week.

Aside from those, everyone else is the next level down, and I'd have Nunes the level even below that.

However, there's no point spending 50-60M on someone else who is untried; if much sooner see us bring in a top class left back, of which I reckon there are far more options.

He's already better than a few full backs we've had.. namely Sergio Gomez and Mendy. We spent 50 odd mil on Mendy and got what 1/2 a season out of him??

Is he Walker or Zaba good?? obviously not but 14 G+A means he's at least on par if not better than Zinny with his production.

And I say that as someone who realizes he should have passed to Erling for the 1st goal but those things happen so fast.. I can't fault him for trying to chip the keeper. That's the difference between Nunes and KDB.. KDB would make the correct decision.

That's what Nunes has to improve besides his occasion mistakes. If he can do that we have some player on our hands!

I was trying to think about it, and those 2 were the first ones I thought of as well.

It's not as easy to upgrade on Nunes than people think.

Kounde? He is more of a hybrid of RB/RCB, with Lamal mainly holding the width, not Kounde. Also impossible to prize him away from Barca.

Frimpong? Basically more of a winger, almost like the opposite of Koune, holds the width, but doesn't defend much.

Kimmich? He is 30, not sure that's the right profile to go for.

Livramento? Better defensively for sure, but he hardly contributes to Newcastle's attack, he is kinda like a Walker to them, which if that's what we want, then sure, I want him too for that.

This is why I've wanted Vanderson, he is about the only realistic option, who plays as an attacking RB, who is an upgrade on Nunes (brilliant defensively, and also contributes to the attack).

This is why selling Nunes is such a no-go for me, he is currently doing a role that very few players in the world are doing, bombing up and down the wing all game, with decent build up and crossing. Yes, he has the bozo moments, but he has to learn the role more and the progress this season has been obvious.

Weird pep never played him left wing after a few games playing there for me he was our best left winger and the balls he put in seemed to find Haaland more than the others who played there!

The general fall off in standard of the whole squad is typified with Nunes.

Weve gone from , “hes awful” , to “yeah he’s an ok right back”, when the reality is hes shite.

Lets not pretend hes where we need to be. Hes done ok. Hes helped us out. But thats it.

Same can be said for a few players where weve kind of accepted the standard but the reality is they are crap

I used to think that but I think you must change your opinion based on recent performances. He's starting to grow into the role at right back.
