So we have discovered he is not the finished article. Which central defender is at 24? Kompany certainly was not. If anything, his sporadic errors this year makes even more incredible what he did last year. He seems a studious, intelligent chap so I am sure he will go back to basics and recover his poise. Can't believe some of the comments here - hero to zero based on a couple of poor games - jeez.
Wasn’t far off as he captained us to the league and was peerless before his constant injuries. Not a dig at Dias by the way

IIRC he was already reduced by injuries before came to us, at Hamburg I think, according to the interview he gave to Nedum on his podcast.

I know, that’s why we got him and as 20 year old he was lightning quick. He was still a physical beast after getting his fitness back at City during that title win and 2014

I’ve refrained so far about posting about his form this season.
It’s been noticeable for a while that his form has not been as assured as last season. I’m seeing some weaknesses in his game which hopefully he will iron out. I love him to bits but he isn't flawless and he seems to be too eager to get the ball sometimes and can be quite rash. Kompany was like this. Both are winners though. I have every faith in Dias coming back stronger and spurring City on to the title. I do prefer him next to Stones though.

He was 26 when we won the league in 2012 - which is quite a difference in maturity and development from 24. And he became better in the subsequent 2-3 years before (as you mention) the injuries.

And in fairness, Vinny had a few brain farts - like the own goal clearance (vs Fulham?) and the scuffed clearance that led to Coutinho's winner in 2014.

He’s vastly overrated. He’s a a good player but talk and awards of best defenders in the world are way OTT.

He’s our Carlos Puyol. Will give 100% every game, is a great leader/talker but in terms of technical ability and defensive acumen he’s not that elite standard.

He’s a brilliant defender, what the are you on about? A City loss really does fuck with peoples heads.

Didn’t say he never made a mistake that lead to goals. Would be like saying Aguero missed chances or David misplaced a few passes in his time.

What am i on about? It's perfectly clear what i am on about.

He's a very good international and premier league defender. He's not at the Elite level in my opinion. I believe his personality and leadership skills overshadow his ability. It's that simple.

Doesn't mean he's shit, doesn't mean he should be sold, doesn't mean he should be dropped. It just means he's not as good as the awards and plaudits tell us.

Brilliant defender. Think he needs to be on the left side, next to Stones, to be at his best. But every defender has a bad day every once in a while, he's allowed one.
