30 | Claudio Echeverri - 2025/26 (on loan at Leverkeusen)

Not a great sign if hes pushing back against the clubs wishes. You'd hope he trusts they know what's best for him. Go where we want him to go, perform and come back to fight for a place here. Screams warning signs.

City want Girona because they know he will play games! If he goes to Roma how do we know he will play games?

Also the language. He speaks Spanish, we could do with him speaking English well, so what's the point giving him a year in Italy?

Rubbish. Tell that to Endrick, while Modric takes a first team place.
The idea that we are uniquely bad in failing to give opportunities is an absolute myth. I love opportunities for young players, but Reis and Echeverri are 18/19 and brand new to the English game.

Looking at the academy, since the takeover, can only think of Foden/Rico Lewis who have started more than 30/40 games who have come through the Youth/academy teams.

If there are others I have not considered fair enough but it’s a pretty poor record especially considering the quality of players who have passed through our academy. I think it’s indisputable really.

Why are we pushing for Girona?
We have about 12 players we could send there on loan.
It’s also in our interests, as part of the CFG, for Girona to stabilise. They slipped from third in season 23-24 to sixteenth last term. A strong Girona helps attract other players, and it’s also easier for the club to gain a more detailed appraisal of how players are developing. One should also be wary about sending starlets to clubs in Italy. They may well develop as players, but they may also develop a taste for playing there and soon their entourage is clamouring for the move to be made permanent. Better a stepping stone than a pedestal I suppose.

Yep it’s like his agent or whoever looks after him has had back hander form Roma! Requesting he wants only a team in Europe as well and expecting to play most games is a bit of a gamble! What we don’t want is a wasted 12 month loan where he hardly plays! Maybe if he goes to Roma we can insist a certain amount of minutes if not accomplished we can recall him in January!

Am aware of that and obviously we have previous dealings with Girona.
I was more interested in why it is Echeverri that we want to send there as opposed to some of our other players. I get the language etc.but it does not seem that we had issues with Reis, Bah and other loanees
It appears as if he doesn't want to go there

Roma accelerates for Echeverri

Roma is ready to close a shot of great prospects: Claudio Echeverri, talented Argentine quarterback born in 2006, is one step away from the loan transfer from Manchester City. The player, considered one of the most brilliant promises of South American football, could land in Serie A to mature under the guidance of Gian Piero Gasperini, new coach of the Giallorossi club

MThe Citizens coach, Pep Guardiola, firmly believes in Echeverri's potential, but considers an intermediate step in a competitive context that can accelerate his growth essential.Roma represents, from this point of view, an ideal destination: the technical project provides for a regular use of the young Argentine, who would be gradually inserted in the midfield rotations.

Heir of Pellegrini?

Echeverri is seen as a possible long-term heir of Lorenzo Pellegrini, thanks to his vision of the game, dynamism and natural offensive propensity. The boy, excited about the idea of measuring himself with the tactical needs of Serie A, gave his consent to the transfer. The operation, which would be configured as an annual dry loan, could be made official in the coming days.
