A low, gloomy roof, poor lighting, a poorer PA system, a hole in the roof, packed in like sardines, getting in early at 1pm to get a good place on the whitewashed wall halfway up, reading the programme twice over to kill time, moving higher up the terrace the older you got, Wagon Wheels, Clix chewing gum, pints of Greenalls and Grünhalle, Benson & Hedges, "COMMIT NO NUISANCE," a light bulb in the tunnel switched on to indicate the Blues were coming out, "Bring on the Champions!" followed by "Bring on the dustbins!" for the away team, piling forward whenever City scored, running back up the tunnels to see who'd scored it, kids standing on homemade wooden stools to see over the crowd, coppers standing on wooden platforms to oversee the crowd, the 5-1, the 10-1, Luton, Charlton, relegation, promotion, joy, and despair, wins, draws and losses, cheers and jeers, "All round to the main entrance to demonstrate" and "Swales Out!"
The Kippax saw it all and so did we, and this month - on 23 November 2024 - sees the publication of a special souvenir booklet: ‘30 Years Later: The Kippax Revisited’ - a 48-page publication to compliment last year's Maine Road Centenary booklet.
Again, this will have a short print run and as well as a Foreword by Peter Barnes, it will contain illustrated articles from City fans about this legendary Maine Road stand.
Price is £5.00 each and postage is £2.50 UK payable to noel_bayley@yahoo.co.uk via Paypal at https://www.paypal.com/uk/home. PLEASE SELECT THE FRIENDS AND FAMILY option and include your name and address (if you would also like a copy of the Winter Warmer in December add £2.50 rather than the normal £3.00 - making a total of £10.00).
If you want to pay by bank transfer email me, or if you live abroad email me and I'll get you a postage quote.
I'll also be selling outside the ground before the next few home games, close to the Metrolink station. And yes, the club have cleared it!
