The exact same thing that Ortega did vs Mitoma at the weekend and won the game of bluff.

All keepers can do in that position is make the forward’s job to score harder.

Yeah, Mitoma should have buried that, the difference was (and it was lucky from Ortegas POV) his finish was terrible and if you watch it it Ortega hesitated whereas Eddie was exactly where I’d expect to see him.

That’s the keeper’s conundrum. They know what their best chance of saving from each forward will be.

It’s at the mercy of the forward though.

Generally speaking the same applies to ortega too when we ask him to do the same and youre right, they cant do much more than make the striker work to score when in those positions but Ortega-mitoma was a bit different, he was actually in a deeper position and chose to come out when he shouldn't have and got away with it.

Any good footballer should chip a keeper if there’s a 10 yard opening and said keeper is more than 12 yards from his line.. Not to say Mitoma isn’t good, I love the lad as my posts in his thread during the transfer window would testify.

It’s not often I disagree with you but I think a one on one will always be framed as a poor finish as opposed to a good save. Similar to a penalty, a save is not the expected scenario.

In the two examples of one on ones in 4 days, Mitoma was slightly closer to goal, but at an angle, whereas The Young Boy was more central and a bit further out.

Both needed the dink/lobbed finish. Mitoma messed up and the Young Boy didn’t.

Whether the outcome was expected or not, Ortega made the save and was praised, and so he should be.

Ederson had little chance tonight because the guy finished better.

That doesn’t mean people won’t compare and contrast and suggest Ortega is a better one vs one keeper later on in the season, which is what I was trying to suggest.

Great to see him back in goal, Ortega is a superb back up but this guy is several levels above.
