On this day (6 Oct) in 1987 our run of 37 away games without a win came to an end At Wolves

Story here:

We turned up in our thousands game after game hoping we’d be there when the run came to an end. Of course, once we’d won in the League Cup it then became about winning away in the League and we kept torturing ourselves, though didn’t have much longer to wait.

When I think back to how things were at times in the 80s (and then late 90s) I can’t help but feel proud of us fans. From 1983 onwards we made City something positive for us. Our camaraderie was incredible and, together with the development of that 86 FA Youth Cup winning team, this is what City was about. No matter what negative stuff Swales, his supporting directors & Bernard threw at us (the threats to increase fencing, abuse when they tried to pass the blame for the club’s problems on fans etc.) we stayed strong in our support.

Many of us used to separate the ownership etc. from our club. We supported the team, the players and each other, knowing this was our club.

I was there sure John Gidman scored. Remember getting rocks and bottles thrown over into our end after the final whistle
Certainly did. Also running battles on the dual carriageway after
How that ground has changed since
Think only 1/2 stands were open
Stood on that big open terrace
Most of it was condemned

Bradford was the big one, not sure if FMC is counted in that figure?

A long way fom the pitch those days at wolves.

He did score and just like Huddersfield in the FA cup a few months later it was an injury time free kick. The game would have gone to extra time otherwise.
I remember the special getting a few windows put through on the way back.

I was there that night, seem to recall the Wolves Subway army were scattered all over the place. Think they were more shocked seeing how many we had there that night than we were in winning.

As mental as it seems now, that was a big upset victory as well as being our first away league win in a season and a half. Pretty sure Bradford were top of the league and unbeaten. I’ve got it in my head that they were 100% at home without even conceding a goal but may well be making that up. Certainly no one went there with any great hope. A good night though. Came out to climb that huge concrete staircase and it was in pitch blackness. Although can’t remember whether it was the football or the rugby ground now. Used both around that time.
