Be calling for this to be played for for a while now, we don't need a 3 man midfield and it certainly doesn't work to well,

Today the 4-4-2 gave Carlos the chance to drop deep and come for short balls, he was less isolated and when he picked it up he had someone to play off, midfield was alot better and we have width with jonno and bellers, something we play well at and must use it to our advantage,

we look more attacking and for once we came out the better team, today 2-1 doesn't reflect the game, could of been 5 or 6, it's nice for a change to hear people say city 'bossing' the game away from home, something we din't hear enough,

to go to fulham and change a system is brave, but Mancini got it spot on, thursdays little trip to the cottage was worth every mile there and back, he highlighted zamora and kompany out played him all day.

i'd stick to this 4-4-2 now all the time, home and away, worth keeping RSC in for another game.

4-4-2 please, perfect for our football, perfect for the quality we have.

i'd stick to this 4-4-2 now all the time, home and away, ade is back for wednesday, it would be interesting to see what mancini does, imo tevez and ade together at times look all over the place, if he's fit it could be worth keeping RSC in for another game.

Gloom merchant.

or at least in the eyes of some on here yo must be because those that have been crying out for a more attacking line up have been told that we are either Hughes lovers in denial or worse.
A squad that has the attacking variations available to us now must go out believing we can win by outscoring any opposition, playing thre Dm's sends out the wrong signal right from the start.

Well done to bobby today, now continue in that thread.

what are you on about?

just highlighting the fact mancini got it right today and played a top formation and team, something we should do more, and how he can learn from it to show we can play brilliant football like today given the chance.

what you on about 'gloom merchant'?

this is what some of us have been saying all along

the 3 defensive midfielders was far too negative a tactic.

well done to mancini for changing it and getting the result we needed (and by all accounts doing it with some style)

Freestyler, I don't think Ade is back for Wed night yet, think he got a 4 game ban, so hope RSC is fit again

ah, thought today was his last game,

just looked on the OS, Everton is his last game, RSC and tevez it is then!

and Mancini has confirmed in his after match interview he will continue the attacking formation from today, well done bobby manc, keep it going!

But Mancini didn't feel comfortable with our defending in a 4-4-2. Now he is happier with it he is prepared to be more adventurous - said as much after the game today.

If he had gone gung ho earlier we might not have got the points we have. Very unlikely we would have got more (not many clubs average more than 2pts per game!)

People did not give him the time needed to make that change, nor credit him with the intelligence to even consider it.

Nobody should be under any illusion that Mancini has had an epiphany and 'come to his senses' - he always knew what he wanted, what was needed, and more importantly, what the team was capable of in any particular circumstance.

What is actually happening is that his early work is starting to pay off, as 'some of us said it would all along' and, I suspect, Bobby always knew it would.

To be fair to Mancini, he's always played with 2 centre forwards when he's had two fit and available. But Santa Cruz and Adebayor have been injured, unavailable, banned, since January.

I think we looked much more balanced in the middle of the park with Barry and Viera. It's a very workman like midfield, but it does allow Tevez the space to drop deep and act as a playmaker in the final third, and both Barry and Viera did try to get up and support.

I think there's a potentially very good partnership between RSC and Tevez, provided Rocky can stay fit.

amen.

Mancini has said he's been afraid a 4-4-2 must create to many holes for us to defend, he's confident to be adventurous (sp) now, if a manager wants to change a formation like that then he believes the players can do it, and they did it today,

i'm not making out mancini was far to defensive, at times 3 in the middle at home is questionable, if he's gonna keep playing more attacking football then maybe we might just see the flair passing football we can actually play when we want to, playing this formation gives us the freedom to open up more, i've been a fan of it always, i think it will work, it's vital we have width to.
