Is the difference between how much we've spent in comparison to Spurs.

I was a bit board this morning so did some investigation on wiki about the two squads (check out the list below).

I was a bit surprised at first, I didnt realise just how much money Spurs have spent building up their team. What I found very interesting though is the ammount of home grown players that have gone on to graduate as regualr first teamers - Spurs in comparison to City have just the 1 graduate in King (with a couple of youngsters who get odd game here and there..).

There's obviously been a couple of signings where we have been ripped off (Toure, Robinho), but to be honest I am happy with the money we have spent on Tevez, Manu and Lescott (yes I said it). Some of our signings have been awsome, I talking about Kompany, Zabba & Shay here.

The real transfer value of the players we bought in the summer should have actually been about half what we said, the media seem to think that a 200m team should play like Real Madrid, when in fact Real Madrid spent over 200m in the summer on 4x players.

I guess what I am trying to say is that our figures are bloated by several high profile signings when the majority of our key players were assembled at a modest cost (Shay, Richards, Ireland, Johnson, Tevez, Kompany etc..) whereas Spurs have spent a lot of money spread across all there players with no youth or academy players.

I think its a bit rich for Spurs fans to give us grief for ruining football when they but players year in and year out and do nothing to encourage youth development.

EssexYid will be along in a minute to complain that Spurs built that team with their own revenues. Not that it isn't a fair point, because I believe that it is, but it just shows that to break the top four you do have to spend money - no matter where it comes from. It's also great that we clearly have a better academy than Spurs. I do hope we continue to place massive emphasis on our youth academy - after all, it's worked for Barca. I'm optimistic on that front too. :)

The spending is often used by other clubs fans & some of our poorer ones as a stick to beat us with, the money we have spent is a direct result of telling the world we would pay ANYTHING for players & pay ANYTHING the said players wanted in wages.

we need to spend that amount just to challenge, we were a poor side overall till our owner came in, spurs have been spending for years.

Agreed,it was like a revolving door with players coming & going.
Very little time & other clubs holding us to ransom was part of the problem aswell, tbh it doesn't matter though because our owner at the time was willing to spend whatever it took.
