Rodri
Bellingham Foden

thats our starting midfield in 2 or three seasons, perfectly balanced

young players form dips up and down until their mid twenties

Phil is learning his craft from the wing just like Dave did when he first came here

I think he grew in to the match, after a less impressive first 30 minutes or so, showing more confidence and energy (which he had at the WC). His goal was far more than a “tap in” as described by the likes of the Guardian and Sky, and was very much a “Foden goal” based on movement and sniffing out opportunity.

Hope this sees him play more alongside Haaland and Mahrez/Alvarez in the league.

His goal reminded me of the one Sergio got against either Spurs or Everton, i cant remember which team, in 2013 I think, where he guides it into the bottom corner. I thought Phil's finish was superb. He got a lot better after that. Shows you that confidence is everything.

As previous comments say he took his goal well but also looked slightly lost in there at times. Didn't offer enough to receive the ball which is surprising as he is normally always calling for it, work to do but still confident that's where he will play his best football.

Love the guy to bits in any event!
I’ve never been massively impressed with him in midfield compared to in the wide forward areas. He’s hardly played there as a senior player and it shows. But give him a run of games and he’ll be great as I think he’s got the skill and ability.

He needs a run of games in his legs wherever he plays. He’s just rusty at the moment.

Foden wen't more inside later in the half, then so did Palmer with Foden almost central, leaving it for Gomez to go outside, it was how we improved into the game for me, especially after the first goal, when Pep had a team "meeting" before they kicked off again.
Yes. Chelsea set up a very narrow defending structure. Gomez was initially inverted but then went outside. Bernado drop deep. Thus we attacked Chelsea wide area and they could not cope.

So those who were on here last week speculating that he and Pep had fallen out. Yeah, he looked proper unhappy on Sunday didn't he FFS?!!

I'm not sure why people can't accept that footballers are human beings and as such all players will suffer a dip in form at some point. I'd also argue that it's more difficult to maintain a consistently high standard in a Pep team as the demands are so great due to the high-risk football that we play and in Foden's case, it's literally been only 2 or 3 games. Kev's been off the boil too recently and Mahrez has been out of form this season for much longer than Foden has but at the moment he's smashing it.

correct!!

I have to agree but lots of people won’t agree. I don’t think there has been any improvement this season
A lot of people in denial because he's a blue

Good player I'm not denying that, but it concerns me that people think he could fill Bernardos boots centrally if he was to leave

Will never be as good as a lot of people seem to hope

Can't even get on the ball and influence the game against bottom of the league
He looks sharp, will take time to learn that role but will be his position. Not helped by that Knobhead Cancelo taking his space. Hopefully get a centre half on for Gomez and put Cancelo left back. He’s coming inside on to his weak foot. Complete waste of time in that position from right back

He has got a problem and it needs sorting before it festers , he is playing like he isnt even bothered and for a lad who bleeds blue that is alarming

Couldn’t disagree more.. He wasn’t great tonight. But he was our best player tonight and was just about the only player trying..

Many many senior players were worse than him tonight..
