Foden had surpassed the stage to be a great talent. Voted POTY he needs to be able to stand up and lead. Yes, lead. But he is far from leading and tbh I don’t like that. I like to say to the lad: Get your shite together, you earn fck loads, so take responsibility and show that you are actually an extraordinary player.

Yes it’s harsh but thus is my opinion.

He should have been running the game like Odegaard but just floats about giving it away most of the time in big games. When we have momentum he is there but he can't produce when it's backs to the wall.

Given him the benefit of the doubt this season, but he comes off as mentally soft. Got called out for his performance at the Euros and responded by ghosting on the pitch for months. Had a good stretch for a few weeks, but now he's poor again.

No baseline performance we can expect out of him, just constant ups and downs.
Even though Phil is world class at shooting and close control, creativity is key for a number 10, goals are an added extra. Foden lack of creativity in big games kills us. And I don’t think he’ll ever improve this, he’s pass power is very weak and because he’s always had KDB next to him, he’s never needed to be creative. He gives soft guy energy. You wouldn’t want him next to you in a fight.
Think about the personalities of KDB, Rodri, Gundogan, Yaya, Fernandinho, they were all mouthy, now we have this guy as our best midfielder? He doesn’t even do interviews. He’s been playing for City for 8 years now, surrounded by leaders and great people, he is successful as fuck, and he looks like he’s scared of his own shadow. This is not the personality you want in a game like this, especially against a team like Arsenal, who have a team and fanbase full of pricks.

He has never been nor will he ever be at the level of David Silva or Kevin, his influence on the game will also not be at the level of those mentioned, he is only good if he is surrounded by WC players from all sides.

The comparison between him and Florian Wirtz is ridiculous.

don't think personality has anything to do with it, David Silva was shy and introverted as well. He is a ball carrier and not a midfielder, he does not have a la pausa style needed for the midfielder nor the intelligence for it. The free role suits him best because he is not a winger either.

Pretty damning he also could't find a way to take advantage of being included consistently in that England squad.

No there’s a difference. The great David Silva loved it when the game got a bit tasty. He would want the ball even more. Vs Liverpool, United under Ferguson, Mourinho second Chelsea, he was one of the best on the pitch. Iniesta was the same, Kante the same, just because you’re quiet and shy doesn’t mean you don’t like these type of games. Foden is different, he looks scared, today he didn’t attempt a single killer pass, and from 30-60 minutes we had the ball a lot. He’s soft.

Don't mean to add to the pile on, but just want to get one thing off my chest that's been bothering me about him for a while. When Kova has the ball Foden shuffles side to side calling for a pass when there are two opposing players sitting in the passing lane that can easily intercept it. He doesn't come short to get the ball anymore and he doesn't run at teams with the ball at his feet which was part of what he brought to the team when he broke out.

How many times does Pep have to allude to it? One minute after we equalise, he tries a risky square ball straight to an Arsenal player. There's a reason Pep refuses to play him deep.
It was a bad pass. I said as much earlier, but it happens. You can count on one hand the number of times he's played a bad pass that has directly led to goals over his already long career, hence why I said some of you are incredibly reactionary. Rodri, KDB, Silva, etc., have all been directly responsible for opposition goals over their careers- it happens.

He's up for player of the month in the league right now... and tell me, one player who's been consistently good this season?
Winning player of the month in the easiest run of fixtures we’ve had all season coming off a disasterclass of a performance?

Doesn't really carry the ball these days

As a forward I don’t like to see him playing so deep…….
