I know he’s a bit of a Swiss Army knife, but I think he’s long enough in the tooth now for both he and Pep to know his best position. And he gets played all over the fucking shop.

Give the lad a sustained run of games in his preferred role (if it’s the Kev role, well there’s no better time is there?) and let’s see if he can get some of his confidence back. He’s a top player and he’s one of ours. Needs support, not ripping apart.

What he does deserve is support en respect for being dropped at 17 in a world class team and perform all these 7 years at a very high level. There is not a player in the world who could replace David Silva or now Kev. People should stop with all these expectations for Phil. He is a class player. Kev was 24 when he came to City.
24 yr old Kev was far better than 24 yr old Foden.

Might be making excuses but I think it is something along those lines. He just looks to have absolutely no stamina and no strength.

I'm not going to put too much emphasis on anyones season this year, its been a shit show from everyone. If it was only him then I'd be worried. Lets get this season over and done with and see where we're at next season, although this stupid CWC doesnt give anyone a much needed break.

That CWC could be a serious problem going into next season for him (and a few others) unless we toss it.

Anyone know how the transfer window works this summer, ie can we register new players for the tournament before it or during it?

If i were Pep i’d tell him to get himself off to Dubai for a week
Pep should be taking all the team to Dubai for warm weather training, tactical talks, defensive and dead ball practice. We have no midweek game next week so just do it. However they will all probably be given 3 days off to jet off separately with their families - I'm not for cracking the whip but most of them need to improve and that takes practice - not sunning themselves on a far off paradise beach.

Used to hear this from rival fans, it ended last season though, but have been reading it from City fans the past few weeks - When does Foden ever deliver when the going gets tough or when does he ever lead City when they're struggling.

Plenty of times is the answer. Off the top of my head:

Spurs 1-0 win in 2019, first league goal, a massive goal in the context of that title race
Goal at the Bernabeu last season in the 3-3 draw
Losing 1-0 at Brentford last season, he bangs in a hat trick
Winning goal at Goodison in 2022
Goal at Goodison last season to level when we were losing
The derby at the Etihad last season, think we were losing 1-0 until he banged in 2
Final league game last season against West Ham
Anfield in a 2-2 draw
1-0 win at Brentford a few seasons ago
PSG 2021
Dortmund 2021
Hat trick in the derby in a 6-3 win a few years ago

Not a bad catalogue, I'm sure I've forgotten a few.

I'm sure Phil will get back to these levels again.

Hmm yes but, 23 year old Foden scored 19 non penalty league goals and 8 assists in one season.

He’s a special player. Kev was one of the top 5 players in world football for about 7 years.

Foden last season looked like he was potentially approaching the same level.

Nobody is going to be as good as Kev at what Kev does. He’s a one of a kind, Foden can replace him in his own way.

Give him the chance he deserves it.

Agree, can't wait for it as well.

City fans are all too ready to jump on our players.

Thought he did well after he had been on for 10 minutes. He got kicked/pushed to fuck.
Needs to stay off corners though

When he's on it he is a fantastic player, let's get behind the lad. One bad season doesn't make him a poor player.

I feel like the main thing holding him back (other than the injury, fitness problems etc) is that he doesn't have the self-confidence/arrogance to think he's the best player on the pitch and can decide the match. Even when he's playing really well it still feels a bit like he's playing within himself. He can be the main man, but it might take a coaching change for somone to push him into the spotlight.
