I love Phil. I think he is by far the best shooter on the team. And thus, i always want him on the team. He's been poor this year and often the way he has been deployed has also been poor.

I want him back in form and being deployed where he is strongest so we can ger the best of him

When he's on it he is a fantastic player, let's get behind the lad. One bad season doesn't make him a poor player.
I don't think anyone thinks that genuinely to be fair. He's a cracking player, anyone saying anything else is just reactionary nonsense.

I would say though, I think the hopes around him were that he'd be another level above what he's currently shown.

He still has plenty of time to kick on again, but the real top players don't tend to have these dips. It's the consistency that really sets them apart.

To be fair to Phil he kicked on last season but like I said before he is having a poor season by his previous standards.

Where do you see his best position? Inside right + just behind the striker?

I don't see any comments here, but his delivery on set pieces was really good.

He made the most chances, and big chances overall, could have had like 3 assists. Extremely good passing today.

Besides those specific actions, he was pretty weak in duels, but he also isn't a striker, so is always going to struggle to win his duels in those areas.

Seems to dip out of 50/50’s for me, if he has desires to play in midfield he’s going to have to sort that out

I still feel his best season/role was 20/21, playing predominantly from the left, beating players for fun and looking like a genuinely mercurial talent.

He’s a great crosser and should be restored to that role - he’s not going to replace KDB’s creativity and output from a central position, but from wide left with licence/instruction to beat men on the outside, he could easily assist 15-20 a season.

He does seemed to have lost a lot of strength on the ball, he is so easily knocked off it.

He is one player I definitely would like to leave home during the summer if I was Pep. Take the summer off football, work on recuperation and doing strength work.
Not sure what his issues are, maybe something going on off the pitch?

I would agree that giving him a long summer break would be very beneficial, he does look to have lost his love of been on the pitch and for me he is hiding a lot on the pitch, not always looking for the ball and that is so unlike him.

I don’t think he played too badly to be honest. Got a couple of good shots off and was looking to create, corners were good and glad he got an assist after he was robbed by VAR in Spuds game. Him and macca were both swarmed in the box with no space until Haaland came on and drew some fire, Phil looked much more comfortable when he could drop deeper. False 9 not working for him this season.

There’s been a lot of speculation about health issues for him. It’s none of our business but I do think lots of medications can make you feel foggy which as a professional athlete must be murder and feels like he’s just a bit out of step with himself this year. Agree he needs a long break.

If anyone thinks I should delete this post I will……

Shouldn’t be done I know but heard from a mates mate cousin in the pub…..

‘Word is Foden is suffering from chromosomes disease ( in / out hospital)’

May explain this season’s drop off in performance

Mate iv heard about 1000 versions of this by now. Depression, IBS, kicked out the gaff by the Mrs, club told him to cut out his mum etc etc none of them are unbelievable but probably none of them are fully true. Something defo going on tho.

I personally think it's just burnout/lack of form and confidence

He’ll be back……..

Burnout pure and simple. Phil isn't the only suffering from this I think Bernie is as well.
No real break from football for 3 seasons. We all need decent down time but since covid it seems football is now 365 days a year.
Phil was treated shit by southgate who seems to have destroyed Phil confidence, being around bellend & taa can't have helped.
Phil getting all those awards and rightly so than southgate treats him like shit when both bellend, taa and Kane were fucking awful.
I agree with ours leave Phil at home thus summer let him get on with his fishing !

Crohns disease? If so that would explain a lot, know a couple of people with it and it wipes you out totally.

As I’ve said though none of our business, just wish him the best and hope he gets back on track.

Wasn’t trying to spread rumours and add to the speculation regarding Phil but it would explain a lot this season…….wish Phil well…he’s one of our own
