47 | Phil Foden - 2025/26

Don’t think it’s just his mentality or complete lack of right foot, I believe it’s more his lack of desire to fight and to win. In yesterday’s game every time he lost the ball he just trots back with no desire or urgency to win the ball back. Like he couldn’t care less. Lazy git. You simply can’t play him and Cherki in the same midfield. Too light weight. Too lazy.

Until he improves and gains confidence with his right foot, he'll never become the player we hope for, neither here nor with England.

On the play where he should have won a penalty, Doku played him a magnificent pass, perfectly timed with his run. He was well ahead of the defender, but his choice to control the ball with his left foot and insist on shooting with the same foot cost him time, and the shooting angle narrowed, resulting in that ridiculous shot to the near post that went wide. Alvarez or Marmoush would have ripped the net with their right foot.

I've rarely seen a player so weak or so uncomfortable with his right foot. I'll keep emphasizing this: it's his biggest handicap, this constant desire to get into the ideal position to shoot with his left. Without it, he's completely stuck.
Yeah, was a great chance wasted by not using his right foot. If he’d done that(i know he was fouled after anyway) the defender couldn’t have got near him without taking him out for stone wall pen

After seeing Eze score a hattrick, Phil needs to start scoring again and score a lot, sick of seeing everyone bar Haaland draw blank, you're being paid tens of millions of pounds so do your job.

He’s so much better than last year and definitely back to near his best. Everyone misses chances etc
Personally think its incredible how immune from criticism he is and if he wasn't from Stockport he'd get far worse.

Barely scores anymore, doesn't control games and goes missing away from home.

His last good season was two years ago with peak KDB, Bernardo and Rodri next to him. I just never expect him to do anything in big games anymore.

Foden is a very good player however he hasn’t (and never will have) the temperament to get hold of the game by the scruff of the neck and start to dictate the play in the way David Silva, KDB or even Bernardo did.

It doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be in the team……..but it means other players have to take on the mantle.

I guess we don't count the derby as a big game anymore.

Being from Stockport has nothing to do with it. For the majority of his career at city, he’s been excellent.

He’s been great in quite a few games this season. United and Dortmund in particular

He’s not the same player as those, but Didn’t he get the goal against West Ham when we needed to win, to win the league? Or control the game against villa in the league cup final? Or grab the ball against Madrid and score that screamer in a huge match.

Then theres previous games like Dortmund, psg, united numerous times and also being the best player in the league to win us our 4th league title.

I’d argue we’ve relied on him too many times to get us out of situations. Whilst our wingers and other attackers barely score or assist

He had a poor game yesterday and that first half miss basically summed up his performance. The lad still has a lot of talent, but consistency is an issue.

Is it just me or does he not dribble at defences and go past players the way he used to?

He definitely has stopped doing it as much. I do wonder though if the league has just caught up to him on that front. It's unrecognisably aggressive and way more physical than it was a few years ago.

I think playing a bit deeper doesn't allow him to.there was a instance he tried to take a couple of Newcastle players on,got tackled in midfield and left us wide open to the counter.
I still feel he's one of our top players and if he scores those two chances people would be saying he's back to world class.

Don’t think it’s to do with where he’s playing. I think he’s undoubtedly not as quick over 10 yards as he was. He can’t drop a shoulder and get away from people like he could.

I prefer him in a deeper central role than as a number 10. As a number 10 he is under pressure to deliver every time he gets the ball. In a deeper role he can take his time a bit more, then become more of an influence later in matches.

The season before last, not a full 2 years ago he was absolutely flying.

He’s been one of our better players this season, playing deeper than he’s used to, where you don’t have as much of an opportunity to score goals.

He scored 19 non penalty league goals playing right behind the striker, you can’t expect him to do the same in this system.

His ‘last good season’ KDB was injured and Phil drove us to the title almost single-handedly in the absence of KDB who only started 15 games in the addition to Haaland missing 9 or so starts. So not sure how he had prime KDB next to him.

It does seem like you’re making stuff up to suit your agenda. No hate, just pointing out where you’re wrong.

23/24 was his peak and looking exclusively at his numbers, he's been regressing ever since. Loss of form is on him, but Pep seems to have completely forgotten what he wants from Foden.
