Don't see a route back for him with Khusanov, Dias, Gvardiol, and Akanji all there. Throw in Ake, Bah, and Reis too, and Stones' injury record works against him big time. Will be loaned out to assess his fitness, hopefully.

After Peps comments about having to be available more throughout the season, i reckon Stones is gone this summer.

It is a choice between Akanji, Ake or Stones to be move on i the summer. All three do have their merits but I would still keep Stones for the extra bit of experience at the club and to keep the English player quota, but the issue is reliablity and wages.

We are doing some decorating so I've saved up/ begged a few old newspapers. Just seen a copy of the Daily Wail dated February 26th. Said John would be out for 10 weeks - surely we are at that point now?

I will be absolutely livid if he is called up for England and plays, because we know the MO there.... he comes back injured again, rinse and repeat, we lose out.

I read that the date he is due is 18th May. So we shall see. :-)

Akanji fits Pep's requirement that the player be available and reliable fitness wise. Only he fits that requirement from the 3 players. If it depends on Pep, which it does, Akanji stays.

John Stones is probably the best defender we have had. He is an absolute Rolls of a player, who enhances the performance of others.
If we are wanting someone to help to bed-in Khusanov, Reis, and Bah, then he is really the man. We need a footballer to play alongside Khusanov, and Stones is the best there is. We need someone to show Reis what is required in bringing the ball into midfield and distributing it between the lines.
The issue with John, is that we cannot rely on him to play week in and out, but as a player who plays some games to support the young players emerging, we couldn't do any better. Khusanov with Akanji and Stones, Dias with Reis, and Gvardiol with anyone.

Apparently Juma Bah has really established himself in the Lens side

With a 100% fully fit squad, and a CL final to play tomorrow night, does he get in the starting XI? I'm not sure, to be honest. The guy is class, but what's that old saying about possession being 9/10 of the law? Right now, Dias and Gvardiol have the shirts.
100% fit id line up
Akanji Stones Dias Gvardiol and have Stones pushing in to mid like he excels at. Gvardiol is a revelation at CB but hes not allowed to use his talent to full like Stones is.

I don’t think Stones has the same earning potential as a Grealish for example.

I reckon he runs his deal down next season and leaves on a free summer 2026 to maximise his earnings at his next club - unless he wants to go Saudi or to the States.

WC might have make him leave this summer but I reckon he’ll throw the dice on him being less injured next year.

City might just roll with this as having him on the wage bill for another season is surely cheaper then having to buy an associated trained CB like a Branthwaite.
